Liberairs of Seaforth and district

ing was held in the interests of W.
H. Golding, Liberal candidate in Hur-
on -Perth. Mr. J. H. Scott acted as
chairman.
Mr. Golding in his address thanked.
the electors for their support in the
past and asked for their co-operation
in the coming election. He challeng-
ed the argume_nits put forth oby. the
Reconstruction Party and the action
Mr. Stevens took in the H'ou'se and
measures that he passed. He then
gave some informing' details connect-
ed with the Price Spreads Investiga-
tio.n contained in Hansard and ..other
public and private communications.
In speaking of the difficulty young
people have in obtaining positions,
the speaker pointed out that the pop-
ulation of this country will ncit ab-
sorb so many young people, no mat-
ter how prosperous the country is or
what government is in power.
He doesn't know how Mr. Stevens
is going to pay off the debt by his
housing schemes. Parties, he said,
may disagree but to see everybody
as a crook or a rogue is, in his opdn-
i'an, ridieulous iri the extreme: Peo-
ple are seeking for some way to im-
prove their conditions and we should
not scoff at them.
He did not consider Mr. Stevens'
mines development feasible. He had
heard the Prime Minister say that
for every dollar taken out of mines,
ten dollars were put in. The Gov-
ernment would have !both expense
and loss in connection with the de-
v'el'opment and operating of mines and
if it were a case of failure the debt
would; still be an topof us. It would
take a long time to pay off the na-
tionaldebt in that way.

1932 RETURNS
Figures in connection with the last 1
federal election in Smyth Huron may'
prove interesting in view of the ap-
proaching contest.
The new Huron -Perth riding is lit-
tle other than the old riding of South
Huron. The Twvn of Clinton and'the
Township of Goderich have been tak-
en away and added to North Iluron,
Lr; the .Townships of Hibbert and
l'ullartonk from the former South
Perth riding,• have been placed in
lluron-Perth riding.
The riding of South Huron, now
Intron -Perth, has been consistently
Liberal since 1925. in that year
'Thomas McMillan, t:hc Liberal candi-
date, was elected in a three -cornered
tight with J. J. Meaner, Conservative,
ar,rl R. J. McMillan, the successful
cr,.rdid'ate's .brother Progressive.
Thomas McMillan willed 4,947 votes,
J .I. '1Vferner 4,694, and R. J. McMil-
lan, 1,680.
Ret.urned in 1926
In 1926.Th.oanas McMillan was re-
turned in a straight fight against
Andrew Hicks, the •former polling
6,370 votes and the latter 5,217. Mr.
McMillian was returned for the third
time in 1930 in a fight against N. W.
Trewartha, Conservati'v'e, the vote be -
ire:: McMillan. 6,176; Trewartha, 5,-
827. Mr. McMillian passed away in
1932, necessitating a by-election
which was held october 3. The Lib-
eral candidate at that time was W.
H. Golding, the present representa-
tive for the South Huron riding, who
defeated L. H. Rader, Conservative
candidate, the vote being: Golding,
7.r,3; Rader, 5,040.
In the hv-election of 1932 Clinton
and Goderich Township which now
go into, the North jiu'ron riding, gave
:rhe Conservative Candidate majori-
ties, Clinton returning Mr, Rader by
158 majority and Goderich Township
by 139. On the other hand, the
Townships of Hibbert and Fullarton
which come from the old riding of
South Perth into the Huron -Perth
riding, both returned Liberal majori-
ties in the 1930 election,. Fullerton re-
turning a majority for F. G. Sander-
son of 45 and Hibbert, 245.
Appreciating ,thet the table of re-
turns from the last election in South
Huron in October, 1932, Will not prove
a very accurate barometer in a three-
dornered contest, it is being printed
below for the convenience of these
who wish to analyze' the figures.
