Successful Rally Held. — Northside
United Church held a very success-
ful rally day service on Sunday last
when the children occupied the choir
and read the lessons. Flowers were
in great 'profusion around the pulpit
and were delivered to shut-ins after
the evening service. The singing was
under the leadership of Mr, and Mrs.
James Stewart.

held from the home of her parents
on 'Tueaday morning to •St. James'
Church and was very largely attend-
ed. Requiem High Mass was slung
by Rev. Father T. P. Hussey, follow-
ed by interment in St. James' Ceme-
tery. The pallbearers were Messrs.
E. J. Box, J. J. Cleary, Joseph Math-
ews, P. J. Dorsey, John Nigh and
Janes Barry.

Death of Mrs. Charles Rolph.—Fol-
lowing a long and painful illness, born
with Christian fortitude, Janet Ad-
ams, widow of the late Charles Rolph
passed sway at the home of her 'bro-
ther, Mr. Fred Adams, on Thursday
evening, September 19th. Mrs. Rolph
was a daughter of the late William
Adams and was born and'i.spent all
her life in Seaforth and vicinity. On
January 26th, 1909, she was united
in marriage to Mr. Chas. Rolph, who
predece'ase'd her in 1928. She is sur-
vived by three daughters, Mies Mar-
garet Rolph, of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs.
Bertran. Stanley, of Brussels, and
Miss Helen Rolph, of ,Dayton. Her
only sort, Gordan Rolph,"pass.ed away
in March of this year. She is also
survived by two sisters and three
brothers: Mr. John Adams, of Day-
ton, Ohio; Mr. Hiarry Adams, of To-
ronto, and Mr. Fred Ada>rns, of Sea -
forth; Mrs. Bert Kling, of Dayton,
and Mrs. J. G. McDermid, of Lon-
don. The funeral was held from her
late home, West Street, on Satur-
day, when the services were con-
ducted by Rev, T. A. Carmichael,
pastor of Northside United Church,
of which Mrs. Rolph was a member.
Interment was 'made in VIa'itlandbank
Cemetery, the • pallbearers being.
Messrs, Harry, Fred and John Adams,
Bert Kling, Chester Henderson and
John Cummings. Among those from
a distance who attended the funeral
were Mr. and Mrs. J. G. McDermid,
London; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Kling,

and Mr. John Adams, Dayton; Mr.
Hairy Adams, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs.

W. M. S. Hold Meeting.—The so-
cial work meeting of the W'. M. S. of
Northside United Church was held dt
the home of Mrs. R. Archibald on
Wednesday, September 25. There was
a large attendance. The program
was in charge of Miss J. Ferguson,
An opening hymn was sung and the
Scripture reading was taken by Mis.
INllliams and Mrs. Westcott led in
prayer. A Missionary, reading en-
titled, ::Sona Mona Siugh" was tak-
en by Mns, A. Reid. Mrs. Carmichael
rendered a beautiful solo, "Oh How
He Loves." Another hymn was sung
and the Mizpah Benediction repeated
in unison. A delicious lunch was then
served by 'Circle 5, with Mrs. Spencer
in charge.

Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary Meet.
—A large and interested audience lis-
tened with a great deal of pleasure to
Mrs. E. A. McMaster on Tuesday ev-
ening at the meeting of the Barbara
Kirkman Auxiliary of First Presby-
terian Church, when she gave a splen-
did paper on "A Challenge to Ser-
vice," which had been prepared by
Miss Belle Smith. Mrs. George Hill
presided over the meeting and led in
the opening prayer. The Scripture
lesson was read by Mrs. H. E. Smith
and was taken from the 12th chapter
of IRoanans, Mrs. Robt. Eberhart
gave the Glad Tidings Prayer and
current events were read by Mrs. R.
Smith. Mrs. J. A. Munn and Mrs.
E. 'Geddes sang a delightful duet en-
titled, "In a Garden." The meeting
closed with a 'hymn and the Lord's
Prayer in unison.

Miller-Archibald.—A quiet wedding
took place on Thursday, September
19th., at high noon at Duff's Church
Parsonage, McKillop, when Jean
Elizabeth, youngest daughter of Mr.
Thtoanas Archibald and the late Mrs.
Archibald, of Walton, was united in
marriage to 'Edward C. Miller, of
Walton. The ceremony was perform-
ed by Rev. G. E. Morrow. The bride
w'o•re her travelling suit of navy cord.
with peach blouse and navy acces-
sories. The ceremony was witnessed
by Miss Marie Ryan, who wore a
navy blue costume with brawn ac-
cessories, and Mr. Gordon Rowland of
«-alton. F'ollo'wing the marriage, a
wedding dinner was served at the
Commercial '.Fl!atel, Seaforth. Later
Mr. and Mrs. .Miller left on a motor
trip to Toronto, H'aanilton and other
points. On their return they will be
at home to their friends at their
home on the 12th concession, Mc-
Killop.

The death occurred in Scott Memor-
ial .Hospital on Sunday morning,
•Septemlber 22nd, of Mrs. Thomas
Hicknell, following an illness of four
weeks from typhoid fever. The de-
ceased was a daughter of Mr. and

As a cnild she came to Seaforth with
her parents, and the greater part of
her life has been spent here. Nine
years ago she was united in marriage
to Mr. Thomas 'Hicknell, who survive',
her, together with a family of tw.
small children, Thomas and Marie,
and to whom the sympathy of all is
extended in their great bereavement.
She is also survived by her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Luke Nigh; four sisters,
and sin 'bro'th'ers, Mrs. Peter Tii'ekinell,

The young girls' Mission Circle of
the United Church had' a very suc-
cessful bazaar on Saturday after-
roon 111 the basement of the church.
There was a fine display of fancy
work and home-made cooking. A
goodly number of the ladies were out
and most everything was sold. Be-
fore leaving for home a lovely lunch
was served by the Mission Girls, The
sum realized was about $25.

niversary at 11 a.m. and. 7.30 p.m.

Death of Thomas J. Maloney
The death in Scott Memorial Hos-
pital, Seatforth, on Thursday morn-
ing, Septemiber 26th, came as a great
shock not only to his immediate fam-
ily, but to a wide circle of friends in
this community where he was so well
known and so highly esteemed. Mr.
Maloney was taken ill only ten days
ago and on Wednesday was removed
to the hospital. The deceased was
a son of the late Patrick 'Maloney,
-and was born on Lot 7, Concession fi,
McKillop, 40 years ago, and had re-
sided in this 'township a1Q his' life,
Thirteen years ago he was united in
marriage bo Miss Theresa Bracknell,
who survives him, together with a
family of five small children, Helen,
Teseaa?; lve'ronhlea, Frantic and Lor-
etta. The funeral will ,be held from
his late hom ' on Saturday morning
to St Cb lualpiban Olitsreb,, followed by

dress in Walker's Hall last week.
Died in Manitoba
The following obituary is from the
Carberry, 4Manitoba, News -Express:
"Mrs. William Ross, wife of the late
y4'iUliam Rloss, of Brucefield, who was
a brother of Mrs. William Berry, of
Bruceffield and Dr. H. H. Ross, of Sea -
forth, died in Carberry on Monday
evening after the result of a stroke.
She' had been ailing for a time but
had recovered sufficiently to be about
her house work and was able to go
out, when she tobk the second stroke
after which she failed to rally. Mrs.
Ross's maiden name was Mary Lydia
Thompson, she (being a native of On-
tario, where she was (born 79 years
ago. With her husband, who died in
1918, she came to Manitoba as a
young woman and has lived here Ov-
er since. During her long life she
was identified with the Presbyterian
Church, she ibeing a life member of
the Women's Missionary [Society;
which honor was given her at the
close of !twenty-five years of contin-
uous service as secretary. Left to
mourn is one daughter, Mrs. George
Evans, ICarlber(ryl, land four sisters
living in the east. Funeral services
were held in Knox Church on Wed-
nesday afternoon during which tlhe
pastor, Rev. D. J. Gillies, paid- tri-
bute' to the deceased's faithfulness to
the church. Interment took plaice in
Carberry Cemetery. Friends from a
distance in attendance were Mrs- D.
B. MGFw'an, Ewart M F wan, Ross
McEwan and Mr. Thompson, a cous-
in, all of Winnipeg; Mr. and Mrs.
Frazer and Mr. and 'M'rs. Ivens, of
Virden. The pallbearers were 'Messrs.
Geo. Elliott, G. A. [Henderson, B. W.
Caldwell, A. E. Gardner, A. Brown
and. Jas. L. Cowie."
