Died in Toronto. -Word has been
received of the death of Special Ag-
ent Richard Thomas Holman of the
Canadian National Railways Investi-
gation Department, at his late resi-
dence, 23 Kimberley Stret, Toronto.
Me. Holman was at :work, as usual,
on Friday •last, but succumbed to a
brief illness Monday. One of the
most popular members of the dnves-
t.igation Department, he commenced
his railway police career in 1914, and
soon qualified for •promotion. With
the e.xceptien of the period when he
was on active eervice, his service with
the Investigation ,Department was
continuous. In 1916 he enlisted with
the 180th •:('Sportsme•n's) „Battalion,
and won the rank of Sergeant in
France. -He returned to his railway
tv,otk,, in 1919; upon demobilization.
Born in Toronto in 1876, Mr. Holman
was a member of Transportation
Lodge, A. F. & A. M., and a member
of the 19th Post, Canadian. Legion.
He is survived •by his vi idow, a soh
and a daughter, As a boy Mr. Hol-
man resided in Seaforth, and attend-
ed the public school here.

CONSTANCE
Last week when Mr. George Leitch
was unloading grain in the barn, the
trip rope broke and Mr. Leitch fell to
the floor, fracturing several ribs.
While helping to unload grain on
Monday last in the barn, Kelso Ad-
ams narrowly escaped a serious in-
jury. The sling rope' cf}ugh on the
wagon rack a e re ' ing bun-
dles the
rack and o were drawn
up .to the stop block where the trip
rope broke and Kelso fell to the floor
rendering hint unconscious. Outside
of being. bruised and badly shaken
up, he was not seriously injured.
Many friends hope he will soon be
completely recovered from his acci-
dent.

BLYTH
The funeral took place on Satur-
day of Mrs. James Armstrong from
the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm.
Phillips, Rev. R. A. Brook having
charge of the service. Interment
was made in Union Cemetery.
,Reid Vipond, Of Atwood, a student
of Queen's University, Kingston, had
charge of .the services of United
Church on Sunday last. He will al-
so conduct the services on ,Sunday
next, •
Mark Mason, for many years. a
resident of East Wawanosh, -passed
away in tkle County House of Refuge
on Saturday morning where he had
been an inmate for a few weeks only.
Owing to ill health during the past
winter he found it necessary to va-
cate his farm, Oon. 4, E. Wawanosh.,
He came to Blyth and made his home'
with his brother, J. J. Mason, until
he went to the County House. . His
wife predeceased' him by several
years. The funeral was held from
the home of his brother, J. J. Mason,
of town, interment being made in
Westfield cefnetery.
[Much sympathy is felt for Mr. and
Mrs. Chester 'Morrison, Dinsley St.,
in the death 'of their infant son which
took place on Monday noon. The
child had not enjoyed goad health far
some time and succumbed when pneu-•
monia developed. He was an only

The August meeting of the N. M.
S. and W. A. of Duff's United Church
was held in the basement of, the
church on Wednesday afternoon,
August 14th. The president, Mrs.
(Rev.) C. Cummrdng, presided over
the W. 'M. 8. meeting, which opened
with prayer, The Bible story on
"Moines" was read by Mrs. Coin -
ming, after which an interes
is on "Hymns" was given by a num-
ber of ladies. The roll call was re-
sponded to by a Scripture verse Con-
taining the word "Pine," During the
'hiasiness session it was decided to in-
vite the members from Clinton the
first week in ,September. The meet-
ing closed with a hymn and prayer:
Mrs, Wilbur Turnbull was in charge
of the W. A. meeting which opened
with a hymn and 'Scripture reading.
The Lord's Prayer was repeated in
unison and the minutes -of the pre-
vious meeting were read by the Sec-
retary, .Mrs. Wesley IHiac'kwell. Ways
of making money were discussed dur-
ing business session. The meeting
• closed with prayer.
