"-'s • -OLD QUARRY IS TRANSFORMED INTO BEAUTY SPOT BY WORK OF SEAFORTH LIONS CLUB , The opening of the new cement swimming pool at the, Lions Club Park on Thursday evening next marks an import•ant achievement by the local • Club. Following the formation of the 'Seaforth Lions Club in 1924, one of its first major activities..was the development of the Lions Park from what had been known as the old quarry. Land was obtained from Mr, E. B. Goudie, upon whose farm the park is located, and was levelled, graded and landscap- ed. Volunteer labor on the p.art of members of the Club, ably assisted by -citizens and farmers, soon resulted in a new beauty spot for the enjoyment of Seaforth citizens. At this time, too, the pond was cleaned of many years' accumulation of mud and deepened (by meansof a 'fine cement dam• at the eastern end of the park. A few years later, bathing houses were built, drinking fountain and •electric lights instalipd and other improvements made. That the Club was amply jutified in its efforts and expenditures was clearly shown,by the ever increasing attendance at the pool and ',para. In 1934 the Club decided to further improve the park by the installa- . tion orf slides, ,swings and teeters for 'the Children. During the past summer the bottom and sines of the pond have been cemented with the result that the citizen S' of Seaforth and district are pro= -Wided with a pool comparable to any in cities of many tim.es, the size of the „town. .An imthense amount of work was involved in building the pool.
