day, June 1st, in the person of Mr.
VLichael .Murdie, and one who for up-
w'ards of two generations' had played
E prominent and able part in the af-
fairs of church and state of his na-
ivettownship. Mr. Murdie had
reached the remarkable age of 91
'ears, but with the exception of his
eyesight,, had enjoyed fairly ' good
health until a week before his death.
Born on Lot 20, Concession 4, the
Murdie homestead, he was the eldest
Con of the late Andrew 'Hurdie,
amd the last surviving member
of a family of seven. He resid-
d on .his father's farm until his
thirtieth year, when he purchased Lot
24, on the 7th Concession, which he
cleared and made into one of the
finest farm properties in the district.
Mr. Murdie .possessed .an exceedingly
able and active mind and beside be-
ing a successful farmer, he had al-
ways taken an active interest and
part in municipal affairs and in the
affairs of 'his church. He was the
oldest member of Duff's iChurcb and
en Elder since 1896, being Session
Clerk for 25 years. He sewed at the
council board as councillor and Reeve
for many years and from. 1908 to
1920 was Township Clerk, a posi-
tion which he filled with marker)
ability. He was also a Director and
Inspector of losses of the MicKillop
Mutual Fire Insurance Company, and
was a past vice-president of the Fed-
eral Liberal Association of South
Huron. Fifty-seven years ago' Mr.

his late home on Tuesday afternoon,
and was one of the largest that has
been seen in the district in some
years. The services at the home and
grave were conducted by Rev. G. E.
Morrow and interment was made in
Maitlandbank cemetery. The pall-
bearers were Messrs. John M. Goven-
