AUBURN
The monthly meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute was held Tuesday af-
ternoon in the Forrester's Hall. Mre�.
James Woodsy president, had eharg,e
of the meeting. After the singing of
the Ode, the'business was transacted'.
The secretary,' Miss 'Margaret King,
read a letter from, the 'W'est, re the
distribution of the car -which was sent
from this district. A quartette com-
posed of Mrs. H. Mug -ridge, Mrs. C.
A. Howson, Mrs. E. Raithby and Miss
S. Carter ..sang 'sweetly. Miss Ml.'
Small told the story of "The First
Christmas Tree" by Dr. Van Dyke.
Mrs. M. Allen and 'Mrs. W. Craig
rendered a duet. Then followed the
roll call which was answered with .n
exchange of Christmas gifts. The
were unusually pretty this, year.
Lunch was' served by the hostesses,
Mrs. W. ,c»�tughan, Mrs. W. ThoMp-
son and Mrs. J. , Taylor.
The weekly meeting of Knox Unit-
ed Young People was held on Tues.-
day evening, with the missionary con-
venor, Miss N. Coutts, in the chair.
Dr. Mortimrore led• in' prayer. Mrs.
Keyes read the :passage, of Scripture.
The orchestra played and Mr. Cheoros
of Seaforth gave a very practical and
helpful talk on how we should make
a choice :between Christ and the world,
The meeting closed with a hymn and
the Mizpah Benediction.
Mr. John A. War, eer, who passed
away in Goderic'h on Wednesday, was
well known by the older folks in this+
district. He was always thought of as
a very kindly man.

death of their sister, 'Mrs. Cameron.
,On ,Monlday evening a social Bathe
ering was held in the Forrester's Hall
in honor of Mr. end 'Mrs. Alvin Learth-
erland, a recent bride and groom.
During the evening a presentation
was made to the happy couple.
The two schools of the Auburn dis-
trict are holding their annual concert
in the Forrester's Hall on `Thursday
night:
The December meeting of the Wo-
men's. ilVlissiOnary (Society of Knox
Presbyterian Chuen was held on
Thursday afternoon in the basement
of the church, the president, Mrs.
Lawson, presiding. The meeting took
tie form of an anniversary; it ..being
the 7Obh anniversary of the Women's
Missionary Society of the Presbyter-
ian Church. The Scripture reading
was the 2nd chapter of Luke, which
was given by Miss Bertha Wagner.
A prayer for thanksgiving for work
of the pastseventy years was given
by Mrs. Lawson. The election of of-
ficers then took place which resulted'
in the same officers remaining in for
another year: President, Mrs.
Lawson; secretary -,treasurer, i14Trs. W.
T. Robison; organist, Miis Josephine
Weir. Mrs. Howatt gave a splendid
talk on "The World -For Christ." This
was followed by a reading from) Mrs.
W, T. Robison on the history of the
W: LS. After the closing hymn, a
social half=hour was enjoyed.
The ,Sunshine Club met on Satur-
day afternoon on the occasion of their
white gift service. It was an open
meeting and a good number were
present. The first patrt of the pro-
gram was the regular meeting, the
president for .the month, Betty Craig,
presided and the following program
was carried out: Address of welcome,
Betty Craig; prayer, Isabel Rol'lins'on;
Scripture reading, Betty Asquith;
reading of minutes by secretary, Hel-
en Marsh; business; reading, Mary
Asquith; piano. solo, Zeta Munro; rec-
itation., Jean Lawlor; roll call, Hellen
Marsh; reading, Vivian .Strawghan;
vote of thanks to Mary Asquith was
meived by Lois Ferguson and second-
ed +by Joan ,Sheppard.'
The .platform for the white gift ser-
vice was decorated, with a Christmas
tree. rn front of that was a white
draped table with two tall candles.
Nearer the edge of the platform was
a manger. Marjorie Art'h'ur, dressed
in a white flowing gown with silver
stars, read Luke 2:1-20y and then
knelt at the end of the cradle. Mrs.
R. J. Phillips played Christmas
hymns while the children coming in
from the sides presented their gifts.

held their regular • monthly meeting
in the church on Sunday night. Mrs.
L. Ferguson read the Scripture. Miss-

terday, To -day and To -morrow," and
Mr. W. Robertson led in prayer.
• •jWord was received in the village of
the death of Mrs. 'Cameron of 'Guelph.
Mrs. Cameron has been i11 for some
time, but her death was not expect-
ed. Mrs. Caineron, formerly Miss
Jenkins, was a resident of this district
in her early years. 'Mrs. 0. E. Erratib
of the Village and Mrs. J. J. Washing-
ton, of West Wawanosh, are sisters.
The autographed• quilt made by the
Sunshine Club is being sent to the
Sick Children's 'Hospital in Toronto
this week.
Mr. Bert Keyes motored to Guelph
on Sunday and 'Mrs. Keyes returned
with him.
