Bechely, Chairman of the Crippled • Children's Committee. Dr. Bechely Discusses Here the Work and Expense In- volved in Caring For Huron County Crippled Chil- dren. It is Only Through the Wholehearted Support of the Community That the Lions Are Enabled to Continue This Activity. Will You Help? The Lions Club of Seaforth undertook the work for crippled children some four years ago,, when it was first proposed to take up this work through the Stratford Rot- ary Club. The late Lion R. M. Jones was largely respon- sible in organizing this activity. Feeling that Huron County was too large for one club to handle, the Goderich Club was approached with the idea of dividing the County. Goderich Lions enthusi- astically endorsed the idea and since that time the Clubs have held annual Crippled Children's Clinics in Seaforth and Goderich. The Lions Club originally did their work through the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, but two . years ago it was decided to transfer this work to War Memorial Children's Hospital, London. Dr. G. Ram- say, one of the outstanding bone specialists in the county, has acted as clinician since that time. During the last few years the Lions Club of Sea - forth has' been instrumental in bringing to light and pro- viding treatment for a large number of crippled children. This activity is at once the most satisfying, .and most heartbreaking to be engaged in. The sight . of seeing a crippled child walk again is perhaps the greatest joy that a person engaged in this work can experience and the dis- appointment, when it is realized that nothing can be done to make. the poor crippled, limbs straight again, is great beyond words. There is not a member of the Lions Club that does not experience a feeling of deeds well done when they think back on the good accomplished with the children in the past few years. Some of our cases have taken a great deal of money to complete. We have at the present time one case alone that will require our every effort to carry to a succ-essful conclusion. And let me emphasize at this time, that with all our cases, there is no charge for medical services. This great body of men=the medical profession—give cheer- fully of their time and means to further this noble cause. The hospitals likewise do -all in .their power; the Lions Clubs pay for their crippled children at the lowest pos- sible rate. I mention these points merely to show that nowhere in the chain of the caw of a crippled child is there any thought of profit. The idea behind the whole work is one of service—to be ofsome use to the community in which we live—to do our part in making the children healthier and happier and so naturally to build better citizens for the future; to try and make self-respecting and self-supporting citi- zens—in short to make this a better country by starting a THE MYRON. EXPOSE ; a{; HALLOWE'EN. Hallowe'en a few years ago meant taking somebody's front steps away, (hanging somebody's elses gate on a telephone pole, the shoving over of numerous sheds and outlying build- ings. The Lions have, however, changed much of this. To be sure some mis- chievous boys still run rampant; some properties still receive attention; but in the main the Seaforth youth of to -day go to the Lions Hallowe'en Frolic. a' /Starting after school on Hal- lowe'en day, with the distribution of noise makers and novelties the pro- gram is carried through the evening and includes a parade led by the Highlanders Baud, prizes for cos- tumes and comic events, and most important in the eyes• of the boys and. girls—free candy for all. This is just another instance of how the Lions have taken care of the children of .the town on an usually troublesome evening and at the same time are raising funds, for a worth- while object. Every Lions Ticket Bought Helps Further a Worthy Cause The Regent Theatre will be a hive of conjecture about midnight on Tuesday of next week. At that time W. H. Golding, M.P,, Mayor Sutherland, G. A. Jackson and K. M. 'McLean will, be drawing ten tickets to decide the winners of the ten fine prizes being awarded in con- nection with the annual Lions Hal- lowe'en Frolic. Attention is called to the fact that every dollar's worth of tickets purchased means so much more,as- sistance for some poor unfortunate crippled child. , Every dollar's worth of tickets pilrchased means that the Lions Club will be in just that much better position to distribute christ- mas cheer to a needy family. This is the point the Lions wish at the only point that this is possible—the children. If it were not for the unselfishness of e'eryone con. nected with this work, it would not be possible to carry on. All the money raised by our annual appeal for funds is used each year and always present is the fear that per- haps for lack of funds some child might be°neglected. We feel confidentthe good people of Seaforth and vicinity will respond to our appeal, buy our tickets, and turn out to the Frolic. Let everyone do his or her part and success will surely follow.- Arnold's Cash Grocery Clearing Out Sale of Dishes Four sets of dishes, 96 pieces each. Several up- to-date Tea Pots and Pitchers.
