Air and. Stored Potatoes
Careless storing of wet potatoes
is responsible for unnecessary annual
losses, Potatoes ought to be stored
dry in a cool, well -ventilated cellar
which isperfectly dark. Piling pota-
toes in heaps in warm and poorly
ventilated cellars creates the most
favourable conditions for rotting, Be-
fore placing the potatoes in a cellar,
wooden slats slightly apart should be
nailed about six inches or more from
the wall, and a temporary floor with
cracks between the boards should be
laid about six inches above the per-
manent floor. This will ensure air to
circulate around and under the pile
of potatoes. If it should so happen
that the pile has to be very large,
square ventilators made • of -wooden
slats and running from top to bot-
tom of the pile should be put in here
and there. Together with the cir-
culation of air at the sides and at the
'bottom of the pile, these ventilators
will keep the potatoes in a much bet-
ter condition that if they were in a
solid pile. Another good (plan is to
keep the potatoes in large crates made
with slats, the ventilation between
the crates assisting very much in
keeping the potatoes in good condi-
tion. The telmiperature of the store-
house or cellar should be kept as
nearly 33 or 35 degrees F. as pos-
sible.
.The annual 'Sabbath school rally
day service was observed in Duff's

-the Board of Y. P. S. and Sabbath
Schools of the church, was carried

-to God, to the Home, to the Church;
and to the .Country" was given by
-the pastor, Rev. Charles ''Cumming.
An anthem was rendered by the choir
-under the leadership of Miss Bessie
Davidson.
The weekly meeting of the. Y.P.S.
of (Duff's Church was held in the
school room, on (Sunday evening with
'over fifty in attendance. The fourth
vice-president, Miss Margaret" Cum-
-,ming, presided oder the meeting,
which, opened with a hymn, after
which (Psalm 19 was read responsive-
ly. ICommnients on the 'S'cripture read-
ing were given' by Jack 'Murray, A
prayer offered by Fred Rutledge was
followed with a hymn and the roll
.,call, which was responded to with a
favorite hymn. The minutes of the
-previous meeting were read by the
secretary, (Miss Edna Reid. Follow-
ing the offering a topic entitled, "Our
'Literary Heritage in 'Hymns" was
ably given by IMt's. Peter Gardiner.
'?The pastor, Rev. C. 'Cumming, gave
an interesting talk on "H•yinns," af-
ter which the meeting closed with a
4dynin and the Mizpah benediction re-
peated in unison. The service next
