Olwing to the absence of the .president, Mrs. Peter ,McTaggart, the Rector, Rev. F. G. Rickard, presided over the ,G2tild meeting, which open - ,ed with a 'hymn and, prayer by the rector. Following the Scripture read- ing the minutes 'o'f the previous meet- ing were read by the secretary, Miss Margaret Driscoll, after which the -loll was called. The Women's Aux- liary meeting opened with the mis- sionary prayer which was followed with an interesting discourse on '"The Anglican Church" by the rec- tor, Rev. F. G. Rickard. The min - sites of the August'meetin.g'were read and adfopted. The president, Mrs. 'William Humphrey, presided over the ;business session after which grace was sung and dainty refreshments served by the hostess. The October. meeting will be held at the horne of Mrs. Thomas Bolger, north of the village. 'The proceeds of the (baking sale, which was held recently at the home ref ;Mrs. William Humphrey, under the auspices of the Women's Auxil- iary, amounted to about $25. The annual Harvest Thanksgiving service •will be olbserved in St. 4George's Anglican Church on Sunday afternoon, 'September 17th. Rev.. Blackwell, of Ailsa Craig, will have charge of the service. Miss 'Hlalcyon F. Chandler; daugh- ter of Rev. and Mrs. E. F. Chandler, sof Kippen, and formerly of Walton, „ -won the $200 proficiency scholarship at Blenheim High School. Messrs. Earl and 'Sam Bolton, of the 14th concession of McKillop, are visiting with their brother, Joseph Bolton, at Rochester, N.Y. iMr. and Mrs. • T. Gardiner, of Londes- boro. The weekly meeting of the Young People's Society cf Duff's United Church was 'held in the basement on Sunday evening with about forty-five -members in attendance. The meet- ing, which was in charge of Miss 'Dorothy 'Drager, the 2nd vice-presi- ident, opened •with a hymn and a psal'nii read responsively. The scrip- ture lesson was read by Miss Anna Ennis from John 3, after which a prayer was offered by 'Miss Isabel Ritchie. A missionary reading by Kenneth Rutledge was followed with -the roll call and minutes of the pre- vious meeting by Miss Edna Reid. A splendid topic entitled, "'Christ or Chaos," was given by Mrs. Gordon QM:cGavi'n, after which the minister, Rev. C. Cumming, •gave an interest- ing talk on the same subject. The •-aneeting closed with a hymen and prayer. The •meteing next Sunday evening will be in charge of Jim Mur- ray, the 3rd vice-president. The topic entitled, "How is Public Opin- ion Created?" will be taken by Miss Isabel Ritchie. The 'Sepltemiber meeting of the -Gleaner Mission Band of Duff's Ultiit- edChurch was held in the basement ,of the church on Sunday morning ;with a good attendance. Following the opening hymn, "Come, Ye Thank- ful People, Come," the minutes of the previous meeting were read and several items of business were dis- cussed. The roll call was followed witlh a story read by Miss Beatrice Kearney about a Chinese boy. The worship period opened with quiet music played by ••the pianist, Miss Margaret'Ou'inming. The call to wor- ship and response was followed with a hymn and Scripture reading by Kathleen Farquharson from Psalm 107. A prayer was offered by the 'leader, after which all joined in re- peating the Lord's Prayer and the classes formed for the study period.
