Death of Herbert Crich. ---IA pion-

Township, passed away . in Clinton
pulblic hospital on Tuesday evening
at 7 o'clock in the.'person of Herbert
Crich, Councillor for the town of
Clinton in his second tear. About
three .months ago Councillor Crich
,:'.began to be troubled with an infec-
•'tion in the right foot which later cul-
--min'ated in (gangrene 'and caused, a t-
.cruciating agony. 'Five weeks a
it was decided by the physician- that
:amputation of the me'm'ber was nee-
essary in order to save the life of
the sufferer, and he was taken to
the 'hospital for the operation, whit
though relieving the pain for a
• was not successful in accomplishing
full recovery and the infection spread
beyond the point of anllp'utation; fin -
',ally resulting •in the death of the
patient. The late 'Hleibert Crich was
fb[drn, in Tuckersmith, 'concession 2,
,on the farm now occupied by Samuel
Switier, on the 7th day of February,
1852, and was in his 81st year. His
patents were.. the late Samuel Crich
and Julia Davies, both Devonshire
born. In February, 1875, he married
Eliza Townsend and they took up
housekeeping on the far.'n in Tuck-
• ersmith where he resided for fifty-
, one years. Eliza Townsend died on
Nov. 18, 1882, and on Feb. 9, 1884,
he married Sarah Townsend, sister
of the deceased first wife. Her'ber't
Crich was one of the best known
and :roost highly respected farmers
;-of Tuckersmith. He took a keen in-
• 'terest in• municipal affairs, was for.
16 years a member of ,the township
council and for seven years repres,.
e'llted the, township of`'Tueker3'rnith:
'He was a Liberal Reform in politics
and Methodist in religion and later
a member of the United Church. He
was one of the leading officials in
Turner's Church ,and 'was for thirty
.aconsecutive years. superintendent of

the Sunday Behoof of that church.'
He was very regular in attendance,
never beim absent from his post,
and always acconl'pani'E•1 by the mem-
hers of his family. Six years ago he
gave up farming and 'moved to ,Glial_,
ton where he had sinee lived: Twu
years ago he allowed his name to be
put .in nomination for councillor .ani
was elected and last January was re •
turned for a second term. During
these years he was Chairman of the
street committee where his long ex-
perience in township mumicilial mat-
ters and his sound judgment made
his services of great value to the
community: On July 9, 1930, he was
•bereft of his \second wife, Sarah
Townsend. Surviving are one sister,
Mrs. 'Robert D'ougla's, 'Strasbourg,
Sask.; 'five sons, Everett, 'Saskatoon,
,Sack.: 'Ernest, Pontiac, •Mich.; Leslie,
(Macklin, Sask., and Melvin and
Frank, Tuckersmith, farmers';, three
daughters, Mrs, Roy, Pepper . and
Mrs. John Turner, Tuckersmith, and.
Miss Gladys,' at hoine. Thetis also
survive 25 'grandchildren and seven
great grandehildrere. The funeral
will be held from Ontario Street Unit-.
ed Church, of which he was an of,,
ficial member, on Friday, 'Oct. 14,
at 2,30. Rev. F. • G.. Farril, pastor of
the church, associatedd' with Rev. C.
J. Moorehouse, of Brussels, a former
pastor;' will conduct ,the services. In-
terment will be made in Turner's
celne•tery, Tuc'kersmith.
