A little girl of the village had a narrow escape last Saturday when she ran in front of an automobile. Te avoid striking her, the driver turn- ed his car so quickly that he collided with a hydro post, breaking it off and smashing the windshield of his car. A lady sitting in the front seat of the car had her face cut. The lit- tle girl escaped with a few cuts and bruises. This is a warningto chil- dren and others to always look in bot]] directions before crossing the pavement. - TUCKERSMITH The hundredth baby born at Scott Memorial Hospital, on May 16th, was presented with 'a gold ring by the Hospital Board. This lucky baby is tale daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Mure Chesney. Scott Memorial Hospital has a great name, It's the place wherebabies get fame; Their hundredth baby arrived on the 16th of May, For "Marilyn Isabel" it was a lucky day, Froin the Hospital Board she! receiv- ed a gold ring. What could be nicer for thesweet lit- tle thing? Her mother and daddy are certainly thrilled, With deepest appreciation their hearts are filled. Nigh has returned to Mr. Mervin Lane's, after being laid up for a week with a bad cold, :Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hodgert, of London, were Sunday, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hodgerrt. Sad Death.—James Devereaux, a well known farmer, of Tuckersmith, passed away under sad and painful circumstances at the Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, on Sunday morn- ing. A week ago last Saturday Mr. Devereaux started a bonfire in the orchard at his farm on the second con- cession and while pouring coal oil on it the can exploded and severely burn- ed his hands and body. He was re- moved to the hospital, where every- thing possible was done to relieve. nd restore him, but his condition was so serious that all efforts were un- availiiilg. The deceased man who was a son of the late Thomas Devereaux, a respected pioneer, was born in Tuckersmith, where he spent virtual- ly all his life. He wa's a member of St. James' Catholic Church, Seaforth, and a man of a quiet, retiring dis- position, who was held in high es- teem by the community. He is sur- vived by one brother, William John Devereaux, and one sister, who lived with him, and was never married. The funeral was held from St. James' Church, Seaforth, on Tuesday morn- ing, and was very largely attended. Inetrment was made in St. James' Cemetery.
