MANLEY
' Notes. -Mr. Pete McLaughlin had
a narrow escape while motoring to
Seaforth last week with his wife, his
brother Mike, and Miss Healy, when
they met a car at Grieve's bridge,
-which crowded them too close to the
guard fence. Their fender struck a
post, which drew the car into the
fence, breaking several^:j7osts and one
cable, while the other cable held the
scar until it was pulled out. There
was little damage • done only to the
fence, but had the second cable brok-
en they would have rolled down an
embankment of 40 feet into the river.

from Windsor spending her holidays
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Murray. -Mr. Peter Eckert is busy
repairing his 'barn on the old Cowan

friends in the loss by death of Mrs.
Mossop's father, Mr. John Watson,
who was laid to rest in Bayfield ceme-
tery on Saturday.

at high noon a very pretty wedding
tock place at the manse, when Rev.
W. J. Maines united in marriage Lila
Mae Lawson, only daughter of Mr.
.James Lawson and the late Mrs. Law-
son and Mr. Harvey C. Johnson, el-
dest son of Mr. and Mrs. Silas John-
son, of Grey township. The br'21es-
maid was Miss Isabel Ritchie and
Bert Johnson, brother of the.- nom,
was groomsman. The bride wore
powdre 'blue georgette with lace trim-
mings and accessories to match, and
the bridesmaid wore peach flowered
georgette. They carried sweetheart
roses and maiden hair fern with
streamers. After the ceremony lunch
was served at the bride's home. The
table decorations were white and pink
swee'at peas and the attendants were
four girl friends, 'Misses Gertrude
Miller, Fern Loive, Jean McCallum
and Nora 'Sholdiee. Twenty guests
were .present. The groom's gift to
the bride was a tray of silver, to the
bridesmaid a white gold wrist band,
and to the .groomsman a gold watch
chain. The (bride's going away cos-
tume was green silk crepe ensemble
with fox far and other 'accessories to
match. They left. on. the 4.20 train
for Ottawa and other eastern points.
Wlhen they return they will live on
the 8th • line of Morris. The bet

Township of Hay
NOXIOUS WEEDS
Mr. L. Schumacher, of Dashwood, has been
appointed as Weed Inspector of the Township
of Hay and the Council of the Township is
anxious that all residents will give the In-
spector their fullest cooperation. The Act
provides that every owner or renter of lands
shall prevent the ripening of seeds of all
noxious weeds. If occupant neglects or re-
fuses to do this after notice, an inspector may
enter upon the land, destroy the weed., and
the cost, if not paid by the occupant, may be
added to taxes. A penalty of not e s than
$20 nor more than $50 is the fits" that can
he levied under the Act for the contravention
of same.
