HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron Expositor, 1929-10-25, Page 5Q the`',i Soot eav (Ladies and Gentlemen,: Having been honored with the nom - lination by the Liberal -Conservative Party in South Huron, I desire to ad vise the electors as to my views on questions before us in the present liampaign, The Province is to be congratulated on having such an outstanding and fearless Premier in Hon. G. Howard Ferguson, and to have associated with him a strong and capable cabinet, in fact in the space of three years they have succeeded in lifting the province out of a deplorable social and finan- cial chaos. I appreciate it as a great privilege to be honored with the nomination in South Huron, in order that I inayr be able to support such an honorable government headed by so capable a leader. Liquor Control Act. In order that the electorate will know my stand on the liquor question 1 would advise the electors of South Huron that I am as good and probalb- ly a better temperance man than my opponent, or any person who may be campaigning for him in this electtior. If I am honored by being your re- presentative, I promise you my voice will be heard' in an effort to still fur- ther the temperance cause. Ten years under the O.T.A. had de- veloped the curse of the bootlegger to such an extent that under the regime of three different attorneys, it was found impossible to enforce the sot. You all know the change that has taken place in two and a half years under Government Control. The hig bootlegger has been eliminated, and the small bootlegger is at pres- ent being dealt with. The order is out, he must g, Dlr. Ferguson has kept faith with the people of Ontario: By controlling the Government sale of liquor, by eliminating the bootlegger and the poisoned liquor, by continual all -year education against the improper use of liquor, the ideal conditions of real temperance may be realized. The 'Uglier Control Act can be further strengthened, and if you elect me as your representative, it will be my en- deavor to further the cause of real temperance. Hydro Electric. The Ferguson Government has by careful attention to Hydro Electric development shown that it has stud- ied the interests of our agriculturists, and (bear in mind agriculture is the .greatest natural resource in this part cof our Province. By laying aside $1,000.,000 per year for rural Hydro development, the Government has now got this great resource in such sound •ifinancial condition that rural Hydro rate can be reduced from $4.55 per month to $2.50 per month and finan- tcial assistance given for installation. A farmer can now have the benefits of Hydro to light his buildings, run 'chis cream separator, pump, chopper, washing machine and other household mnachinery. (Previous to the election of the Fer- guson Government, no assistance by 'way of bonus had been given to de- velop Hydro on the farm. The Gov- ernment has already handed over $6,000,000 for developing rural Hydro. Township School Board Bill. Much unfair and in fast untruthful ,criticism of the Minister of Educa- tion's proposed bill has been spread 'through constituency by designing politicians. Now any school boy look- ing at the Township School Boatel Bill •will readily see that it means noth- } qng more and nothing less than a bili to provide a school board for a town - +I'` a ship. Not one syllable refers ro con- solidated schools, and the Premier mever has advocated consolidated schools. He does believe that one tachool beard is preferable, but it rests entirely with the township. Nothing is compulsory with Premier IF'erguson and his school policy. If elected I shall enter into public life determined. to give the best that in me lies, in the service of my fel- Bow citizens. No person of standing expects anything else but that the Ferguson Government will be return- ed to power. Knowing this, would it mot be well to be represented by •a nnl•Fporter of the Government? In justice to herself, can South Huron afford to send an opponent to a Gov- ernment prepared to extend go many services to this county? Yours for service, GEO. H. ELLIOTT WANTEiD Parties to knit for us at home by machine or by hand. For particulars enclose stamp. The ]Illovme Knitting Machine Co., 89 Coleman Ave., Toronto.
