WQod, who was recently re - (elected to act for the fourteenth term .as president of the United Farmers .of Alberta, and who as chairman of the Canadian council of agriculture and head of the wheat pool has be- come a national figure, did not break into the limelight of the U.F.A. coun- cils until that organization had been in existence for several years. Mr. Wood hails from Missouri, and is one ,of those people who want to be shown. So while he attended the big meetings as delegate from the local at Carstairs the held his peace. But then his day came. Attend- ing a big meeting at Red Deer his companion was surprised to hear Mr. 'Wood say, "I am going to speak to this." He got to his feet. But Mr. Baker, vice-president of the U.F.A., who was presiding, failed to notice the big stranger. After standing up three times without avail, Mr. Wood, in that powerful voice which has since become so familiar, roared in exas- peration: "If you don't notice me I will speak from my seat." He was heard and has been noticed ever since. In fact he is sometimes nicknamed "The Farmers' King." A GREAT PUZZLE TO CAREFUL PARENTS One of the greatest puzzles to the careful parent is to know just what medicine to give the little ones. When the child falls ill with gripping pains; is seized with cold or fever, refuses food or vomits what he has taken, when he cries a great deal and cannot get the sleep so necessary to the growing child, the parent is in a quandary. What is to be done on such occasions? As often as not there is not a suitable medicine in the house. The puzzle is what to give him to set him right quickly. It is to meet such requirements that Baby's Own Tablets were designed. These pleasant little Tablets quickly reduce fever, breaktupcolds, relieve constipation and indigestion and allay teething pains. They quiet the nerves and promote restful health -restoring sleep. They are guaranteed absolute- ly harmless and safe for even the youngest and -most delicate baby. Baby's 'Own Tablets are sold by medicine dealers or by mail at 25 cents a box from The Dr. Williams' Medicine Co., Brockville, Ont. Dr Ilrn k K© Water erg To End ndigestion IINSTANT RELIEF Thousands of unfortunate people suffer almost daily from stomach acidity, gas, sourness and indigestion after eating. If they would start the agreeable practice of taking a glass of hot water containing a teaspoonful or four tablets of pure Bisurated Magnesia, they would soon find their stomach so strengthened and improv- ed that they could eat the richest and most satisfying meals without the least symptom of indigestion. Nearly all digestive troubles are caused by an excess of acid and an insufficient blood supply in the stom- ach. Food ferments and sours before digestion can take place. A glass of hot water draws the blood to the stomach and Bisurated Magnesia neu- tralizes the stomach acids and keeps the stomach strong, sweet and healthy and promotes normal painless diges- tion. Bisurated Magnesia els not a laxative, is harmless, easy and pleas- ant to take, and can be obtained from any well stocked druggist in either powder or tablet form. Try this to- day and enjoy your meals in peace. NO ROBBERY! It is said of Field -Marshal Lord Al- lenby that on being made a viscount after the war, one of his first remarks was that, thank heaven, he need now sign only his surname for the benefit of autograph hunters. At one time the famous soldier was compelled to refuse all applications of the kind owing to their ever-increas- ing numbers. At a certain social function he attended, however, a lit- tle girl brought him her autograph book and begged so hard that for once he broke his rule and signed. A few weeks later, at a similar function, he was surprised to see the same little girl approaching him with note book and pencil as before. "Will you please give me your autograph?" she asked sweetly. "But I gave it to you only a few days ago," said the field-marshal. "Oh, yes," she replied, with a toss of her curly locks, "but I swopped that one for two admirals and a bishop." IIMPORTANCE OF RAPIID MILKIING How to milk so as to secure the best results was described to the members of the Cullompton and Dis- trict Agricultural Discussion Society by Mr. James Mackintosh, of the Na- tional Institute for Research in Dairy- ing. He said milking should be carried out as quietly, quickly, and thorough- ly as possible. Quickness of milking resulted not only in a saving of time, but in an increased return. The in- crease might be as much as ten per •cent. in the yield, and up to forty per cent. in the butter fat. The average number of cows milked per hour was $probably about seven, but no good milker should be content with less than nine per hour. The time requir- ed to milk any one cow would vary with the yield and the ease with which the cow could be milked. Cows giv- ing a large yield might be milked at the rate of three to four pounds per minute, but the average rate of milk- ing was probably about half that qusntity. Thorough milking meant very care- ful stripping.out. This was most im- portant, because the strippings were very rich in fat. Tests which had been made showed that in milk from a completed milking which averaged four per cent. of fat the percentage in the stripping amountefl tb from eight to ten per cent. Insufficient stripping, therefore, meant a loss of the richest portion of the milk, and a reduced output of butter or cheese, and it also tended to the drying off' TO REMOVE WARTS These unsightly, troublesome growths are becoming more prevalent each year. Quite often a case is found where all methods of treat- ment fail. Dr. Benbrook, of the Vet- erinary Division, Iowa State dollege, recommends the use of either castor or sweet nil, when the warts first make their appearance. The oil should be applied twice daily. Some herdsmen use a paste of sulphur and sweet oil. Axle grease and crude oil have been used by some club mem- hers with good results. A small strong string, or silk thread, tied around the base of the wart next to the skin, and tightened every few days, usually will take them off. Cut- ting the wart off with a sharp pair of scissors, or twisting them off.with the fingers, and then painting the stub with iodine, is quite an effective way of getting rid of them. If they show signs of again growing, touch- ing the growth with a red-hot iron will kill them. Removing th@rn sur- gically is the surest method though not always prabticable. Fowler's So- lution is sometimes prescribed for malignant cases, but you should con- sult your veterinarian concerning the method of feeding and dosage. d very E CAT ell Tailore 11 ui 46i.w ri.direr(. 1 ■flips■ ,, .:, . :Ww1■"rri ■i ti'■ r ■ "elii■v..1: ,n,..,..::::: -:-....,;•,:.•,,i)•„;',•,• 4 .A■ .11 ■ ■ •1■ ■ ■ ■!■ :le ■ ■ ■ li • •- r■.■r.■■rau.ra11U. sS».w' , .■■rrrra■r■■ara." ■arraa,■■.r■■■aca■ ate, ■■■■.■rar■■a■■. rissinausisamasm :war ■: ■/:al■■■■ ■ a:w ■ ■ ■• a:■• .■■■■■• ■• ■a■{ Vii.' .. 11 I ■■r■.■ra■.■r. ■aw■■■■U■rua'rs ■"....I I ■■ra■■■■■aa■ I.•....■.■■■■III IIIIIIIIIIIMMINBIllislialcil ,!■ rrr ■a w r■ ■ ■ r ■'■ ■ 1re usCa. 11U'.l ■ ■ ■M ■ a ■ ■ ■-■>• karissow.rr■aara■eiLi a■■rr■ra■■■aa■a>'; ■ ■ ■ ■g. r, - i ;sfq► PIIS (Nick -Clears ce SO,e f only I en's &Eke coax s to rcu right sI t,le time wll eim yoa.ti need a, spry+, ewer sunt These are i[. its of su err r . grade s.m d funny worthy wi our This is the m©st starting s : , n toiur bt lsamess — make it r©r business tion Vakes 20 to V iluee 0 %a •■i ■ at■rii 4 ■ia aifa4. i emu's •3 ■.li4.i•• all ■■.i•t.■UI ICRi ■"■,?(.er i1 r i to '■ a •■: r ■ .*i 1 sir' 11gkl%'...>.ar . ■ I.1N' .. s. ■ 11 u!Amel■ii"ia' '■..■.l@..air■.'
