Professor Caesar has bioen-making extensive field tests with various substances, and finds that it is very di'Mcult to secure a satisfactory con- trol, by spraying. The only spray he found at all satisfactory was kero- sene emulsion. This was also the cheapest spray. It is made as fol- lows: Dissolve 1% or 2 pounds com- mon laundry soap or soap chips in 1% gallons of boiling water, prefer- abr� rain water, pour this while still very hot into the spray tank and add at once 2 gallons �f kerosene. Then turn the nozzle of the sprayer into the tank and pump the liquid back upon itself for about five minutes until it is thoroughly emulsified. It will then look like cream or milk. Before using dilute to 25 or 30 gal- lons with cold water. The mixture wil-I still be white Us milk if pro- perly made. Apply the spray to the under side of the leaves with as much pressure as the spray outfit will give. Use a short spray rod, 3 feet longi, made of ordinary gas pipe. Bend this toward the end at which the nozzle or nozzles are attached so that the spray may be shot up from beneath and cover the under sides of the leaves. Remember only aphids that are bit will be killed.
