WALTON
Reception and Presentation, - The
following paragraph from the Viking
News, of Viking, Alberta, will be read
with pleasure by many friends in
this vicinity, as Mrs. Skalitzky is a
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F.
McCulla, and a sister of Mr. William
McCulla of the "Woodland," Walton:
"Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Skalitzky arriv-
ed home from Ontario last Wednes-
day evening. At the train were a
Targe number of friends to greet
them. They were taken by auto to
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adolf
Streit, where a number of friends
gathered including the directors of
the farmers co-operative creamery of
which Mr. Skalltzky has been man-
ager ever since it was organized some
twelve or thirteen years ago, Much
of its flourishing condition and suc-
cess id attributed to Mr. Skalitfsky's
careful management. They left On-
tario on August 20th, stopping off
for a visit with relatives in Minne-
sota before proceeding west. This
-was the reason that they did not ar-
rive in time to be at the wedding
dance and which they regret very
much not being able to attend. Be-
fore the pleasantries of the evening
-were over, Mr. and Mrs. Skalitzky
-were presented with a collection of
'cut glass, with this address: "The
friends and business associates of Mr.
Skalitzky for a number of years have
.much pleasure in tendering this gift
-to Mr. Skalitzky and wife, and with
the gift goes the sincere wish that
their wedded life may be long and
prosperous, and we join in extending
to Mrs. Skalitzky a very hearty wel-
'come to Viking. May our true west-
ern hospitality do much toward less-
ening the natural regrets that she will
feel at leaving her eastern home and
friends to reside amongst strangers."
HIBBERT
Golden Wedding. -One of the hap-
piest events which has occurred in
this vicinity for a long time, took
place on Sunday, September 16th, at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mahaffy,
'when this highly esteemed couple
celebrated their golden wedding. The
gathering came aft a complete sur-
prise to the happy couple themselves,
it having been most efficiently ar-
- ranged by their four daughters and
their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nelson
Mahaffy. All the children, except
,one, were present -Mrs. Robert Nor-
ris, of 1 ondon; Mrs. Austin Dilling,
'of Staffs; Mrs. Robert McLean, of
I-iensall, and Mrs. Joseph Linton, of
Bethel, and Nelson, at home. One
'daughter, who resides in the West,
could not attend. Sixty guests were
present in all, among them being
throe brothers of Mr. Mahaffy: Mr.
Wm. Mahaffy, of Kirkton; Mrs. Thos.
Mahaffy, of Cromarty; Mr, James
Mahaffy, of Clinton, and one sister,
Mrs. John Miller. Mrs. Mahaffy's
four sisters were alio present -Mrs.
Brooks, of Toronto; Mrs. Sawyer,
Mrs. Hutchison and Mrs. Tilley, Mit-
'chell. Mr. Mahaffy was horn east of
Toronto, while Mrs. Mahaffy was horn
-near their present home to which Mr.
Mahaffy came as quite a young man
and on which they have resided all
the fifty years of their married life.
The one touch of sadness which cloud-
ed an otherwise perfect gathering
was the fact of the one daughter,
Mrs. D. Henderson, who home was in
'Toronto, having passed away a few
months, ager. Mr. Henderson, how-
ever, came up from Toronto for the
occasion with his two little sons. A
beautiful supper was served, a golden
color scheme being carried out in the
decorations of the table and many of
the dishes were very cleverly arrang-
ed to carry out the same affect:. In
the centre of the table was a beauti-
fully decorated wedding cake, which
-was formally cut by the bride of 50
years ago. An unusually pleasant
