46.25; °tags, $4 to 85.00.
Montreal, August 9th, -Live stook for sale
an the two markets thle morning amounted
to 138 cattle, 295 sheep and lambs, 959 hogs
and 320 calves. Cattle offering was made up
of two loath of common quality Western
steer., a Large percentage of dairy type bulls
and the balance common cows and heifers.
Trading was Blow. A .few thin bulls told
from 2.60 to 83.00. and a half doom common
cows brought from $2:76 to 83.25. Calves
were about steady. Medium quality sucker
oalvea realized $6.60 and 87.00 and common
lots from 86.76 up. Grassers were from 48
to $3.50 and a few good veeis weighed out,
realized $8.00. Lambs ranged from 810.50
to $12.00 with the bulk at the latter figure.
A few loads of the hogs offered were delivered
under contracts made last week. Sales of
leets and °hop, hogs mixed were made at
110. Sow., 36.75 for the bulk.
Union Stook Yards, Toronto, August 855.-
8eeelpte for to -day were: 4,466 cattle. 714
calves, 2,088 hogs and 1,857 sheep and lambs.
There were eilno 900 cattle on through billing.
and done to 000 bead carried over from last
w eek, making a fairly large offering.
Native supplies were rather light, but the
✓ eceipts were swelled by continuous arrivals
t rent Western points. Western cattle made
up, a good fifty per cent of the total run,
and the quality was no better than usual.
Trade opened with a fairly good demand
-from packers for better grades of butcher
Battle, and prices of these were fully steady
with lest Wednesday. A few load° of
bandywelght ethers brought $7 to 47.40, while
the pick of the henay steer offering also
went to the packer buyer. at $7.75, this
price being paid for three loads. Exporters
were more active than for some weeks, and
took about twenty loads of heavies at $7.50
to $7.65.
At 2 o'clock the best of the run had passed
over the scala, and the commoner stuff had
been ocereely touched. Over 3.000 head were
still unsold, with preepeets against their die -
easel to -day. Store cattle trade wee no good
es mufti, as the quality was not very at-
tractive. Ten load° of thin light Weotern-
ere crossed the melee at $2.75 40 84.40, with
nothing very good in the lat. The rune of
poor stuff will have to let up noon if the
accumulation on the market' is to be disposed
of. There is also the native grana stock to
be reckoned on noon. These are being held
back somewhat at present, but will have to
come in if the drought continues.
Calf arrivals were moderate, and a good
demand accounted for everything by the dose
of the day, at last week's prices. Odd tops
brought $11 with the bulk of choice at $10.
"Medium to good Delve,' were sold from $8
t o $9.60, with a few graeaere es low as
*4.50.
The majority of lambs were sold at $12,
'with several loads at $12.60 and some heavies
town to 411. Thin collo went generally at
18 4o $8.55. Sheep demand was fairly good,
but suppliee were meagre. Some gaol light
kinds brought $5 th $6.50, with no heavies on
offering.
