Montreal, April 17 -Cattle receipts, 757.
Priem for good cattle were lower and for
the common kinds about steady. There were
aeme better cattle on sale than a week ago,
and on thin account top quotations were near
Sas: week's level. The bulk of the steers
brought from 97 to 83.50, and ernong these
were some 1,200 -pound to 1.300,pound cattle.
Good cows were sold up to 95.50, and good
bulls around 95. Common bulls were as low
as $S and onumber of Iota of medium to
oommoo cows brought from 95.25 to 53.50.
Quotations: Butcher steers, choice,. $7.50 ;
good, 57 in 97.20: medium, $6.20 to $6.60:
common. 55 to 96; butcher heifers. good. 86
to17;
medium, 05 to 55.75; common, 3.50
to 54.75; butcher cows, good, $5 to 55.50;
medium, 52.25 on 54.50; cutters, 52.25 to 2.7..;
butcher bulla, good, $4.75 to $6; common, $3
to $4.50
Calf receipts, 517. The calf market was
about steady. A few small lots of IrmW heavy
calves sold at $6 and $6.50, but the bulk of
the medium quality loth brought from $5.00
to 55.50, Common thin calves .Sold down to
34. Quotations: Good veal, $6 to 86.50: med.
65 to $5.50; common. $4 to 84.75. •
Sheep reeeipty. 123. One straight lot of 40
fairly good light sheep brought 98.75. Other
mailer lots sold for 35 and cull., 14 and up.
Lamle scarce and prices unchanged. Quo-
tations: Ewes, 14 to 89.75; lamb. good, 310
to 512.
Hog receipt's. 1,384. Market stronger. Sales
ranged from $11.76 to 812 with. a few small
dots to local butchers at 812.25. Trading was
active. A couple of Iota of coarse hogs
brought 811.00. Sows. 08.50 to 59. Quota-
tions (off car weights): Selects, $11.75 to
$12: Bows. $8.50 to 02.
Union Stock Yards, Toronto. April 17. -The
marketa active to -day apd strong fur
everything but medium bulls and common
styli'. The offering was some 800 head heav-
ier than 1as5 Monday and all but about the
odd 300 were taken at steady to strong
prices. Export demand was brisk from th
taros and choice heovy steers brought from
746 to Sc for the bulk, with odd lob as high
as 8'%c, while export store cattle made 7 'to
714c, selling readily. Butcher cattle were
bit slow in starting, but. picked up apd moved
Sart after 10 o'clock and by 2 p.m. there
were 2,800 cattle over the scales with trade
till active. Odd bb of choice butchern made
7,50 cents, which was 26 cents per cwt.
stronger than last Monday, for tope, while
the bulk of the butchers of better than Gam-
mon quality sold at from 6% to 7 cents. The
market for butcher cows was a quarter strong-
er than a week ago, with moat of the goal
kind selling within the 6 to 61/2c range, and
top at 6•nts. meatand for bulla, outside
the export kind, wail a shade slow, but the
ex0orters were arm at 4 1.2 to 5 cents. Feed-
ers for domestic distribution were fairly ac-
tive and the price at the top woo strong,
the busk of choice moving at from 6 to 7
cents.
Only an odd top brought 10c in the calf
division, as the run wan decidedly heavy and
demand showed no improvement over the
close of last week. Some good cnlve_,v sold ht
from 25 to 655 cents, and from 4 to 7tr5r,
was the price range for the bulk of the en

'tiro offering.
Some Western lambs that arrived last week
sold today at 15 cents, and a few native
Ten clings at from' 102:5 to 14 centts. Spring
lambs were
steady, and a fair trade at from
151/.:to 16c per pound, or anywhere from
68.60 to 518 each, outside of 8 prime Iambs
sent by J. Brodie, Ringwood, which sold to
the Harris Abbatoir Compapy, for Shields -
Atwell at 170.
HORS sold steady despite a fairly heavy run
at 1014 tto 10.35 cents, f.o.b., or 11 to 11.10
cents, per pound, fed and watered, with not
many hogs avid on the latter basis.
The receipts to -day was 4,020 cattle, 829
calves„ 0,700 hbgs, an,1. 138 sheep and lambs.
In addition there were 430 cattle billed
through.
