lenge euchre will be held in the Club
rooms on Monday evening next, Feb-

The Victorian Artiste. -The fourth
Lyceum coneert, under the auspites
<if the Se-aforth Red Cross Society,
held in the Strand Theatre an Thurs-
day evening last, Wig one of the mast
enjoyable of the course. The attend-
ance was also large and the Victoriae
Artists were thoroughly enjoyed. The
programme consisted of numbers on
the flute end piccalo by Mr. Small,
bassoon, sakocaphone and cornet by
Miss Callahan; flute, by Miss Mor-
ley, while Mrs. Small Wan the soprano
seloist. Each one was an artist and
every number was listened te with
the keenest enjoyment and was ten-
dered an enthusiastic applause.

Local Briefs. -Mrs. William Sleeth
met with a very unfortunate acci-
dent on Thursday morning last when
she fell in her home and fractured
'her thigh bone. As she lives alone
ber pl.ighrt was not discovered until
the next morning, when her neighbor,
Mrs. Davis called. Medical attend -
once and &terse were at once pro-
cured, and although Mrs. Sleeth is
in a very meious condition she is do-
ing. es well as could be expected. -
Miss Margaret O'Connell, of Buffalo
Miss Margaret Fortune, of Detroit,
Miss Agnes Downey, of London, and
r. E. Carpenter, of Duluth, were
here this week attending the funeral
of the late Mrs. Luke Fortune. -

Wm. Thornton returned to her home

ing a few days with her parents, Mr.

mond, of Hearst, and Miss Elva Rich-
mond. of Blyth, were guests last week
at the home of Mr. and Mrs, James

week end at the home of her parents,

$90. -Miss Retta Hoggarth, daughter

tine on Saturday last. Many friends
hope that it will prove suocessful and
that she well make a rated recovery.

Public Library- Fleard.--A special
meeting of the Seaforth Public Lib-
rary Board was held on Friday even-
ing laet for the purpose of concluding
the bueiness of the past year. The
closing portion of the meeting was
quite impres.sive throegh the sever-
ing of old ties of association with
three of the former members of the
Board, who were present during the ,
initial proceedings of the securing thel
Carnegie grant of $10,000 and subse-
quent erection of the spleedid edifice I
used for edueational purpoees, which
adorns the south end of our Main
street, viz. Messrs. M. Broderick, W.
J. Duncan and J. Arnold Cam On
motion of Mr. J. Ross and second-
ed by Mr. A. F. Oleiff, the following
resolution was unaminously adopted:
"That this Board desires to express
sineere appreciation for the efficient
work done by Mr. M. Broderick, chair-
man of the Building Caminittee, and
Mr. W. J. Duncan, chairman of the
Property Committee, and Mr. J.
Armed Case, who for many years
have given their time most ungrudg-
