spending a week with friends here. -
On Sunday night while Mr, and Mrs.

crowd -gathered' at the opening of the
baaement of the new Lutheran church

Rebler, of Linwood, delivered a well
prepared sermon in the morning and
Rev. Klachn, Straltford,:`assisted 'at
the evening service. The basement
was well lit up with the new electric
plant which .has been installed to
light the church and parsonage. The
basement will be used as a place of
worship for the winter months as the
interior of the church will not be
completed until spring, when the
church opening will take place. --On
Monday evening the ladies of the
village gathered at the home. of
3leasrs:brothers and .presented
Mrs. Ella Rine, who has been making
her home there, with a shower of sil-
verware prior to her marriage, which
took', place on Wednesday, No-
vember 90th.

recently 'bought the blacksmith busi-

from Wingham. He has rented Wm.

visit: The masquerade dance on
Friday evening of last week, was
largely attended and about a hun-
dred were in costume, of which there
was a great variety and was very
good ones. The prizes wase awarded
as follows: Lady's fancy, Miss King
and MTs. Welch as Christmas trees;
men's fancy, Capt. J. Fefrguson,
squaw comic;, Mr, and Mrs. Darrow,
as Jiggs and Maggie -The residence
of Mr. John Sturgeon was completely
destroyed by fire one Wednesday af-
ternoon. The origin of the fire is not
known as no one was home at the
time, and' the fire had gained such
headway before being di0covered that
wry few of the contents were saved.
-Miss 'Isabelle Woods and Mr.
Crosbie, of London, paid a flying vis-
it to Miss Woods' home on Tuesday.
-There was a very good attendance
at the community meeting in the
town 'hall on Tuesday evening. A.
short programme. opening with a
musical contest and solos by Rev.
Macfarlane, Mr. A. E. Erwin and
Mr: David Sturgeon, a reading by
Mra. Pitts, and a very interesting
address'by Mr. McLaren, of Toronto,
in'the interests of social service and
community work. He Was very in-
teresting and instructive.,
