It is reported that a young man
named Wm. ,McKee, while workieh,& at
his father's'place oil the 6th. _con, last
week was struck by lightning during a
thunder storm. The' young man re-
ceived a serious shock and was some-
what burned, but has .since entirely re-

covered. -
We are pleased to learn that Mr. Gil-
bert Jardine has -almost entirely re-
covered from the illness which was -re-
ported_in the •GAZETTE last week. Al-
though over ninety years of age the old
gentleman has a strong constitution and
was able topull though a sickness Which
would haye been too much for ,many
man twenty years his junior.

morning on account of the death of Mrs.
Pomeroy, was plainly heard in Ford-
Wich.
Mr. Cyrus Green, ingrafter, has been
operating on the fruit trees in Howick
the past couple of weeks. •
Mr. W. J. Perkins had a fine hew
awning added to the front of his 'store
this 'week. Mr. I. Sanderson did the
work.
Mrs. Kaiser, of Harriston, waa the
guest of friends in Gorrie this week.

In the issue of last week in the Ford-
wich items," there was an important
°omission in the pledge said to be cir-
culated in the Fordwich Methodist
Sabbath School, one sentence being left
out altogether. , Who is responsible for
the ommission may not be clear. The
pledge reads as follows: "We whose
names are here under written, do
solemnly pledge ourselves to abstain
from the use of all intoxicating liquors.
And also from the use of tobacco, and
profane language, and we are in honor
bound to keep this pledge until we per-
sonally apply to the superintendent of
the Methodist Sabbath School in Ford-
atvich to have our names erased." •
Messrs. Leversage and Turner, from
Fullarton, visited Eordwich on Monday
to take notes of the Methodist Church,
in view of building one about the same
size in their neighborhood.
