Good Potatoes.: We have been hear-
ing lately about many bumper crops
of potatoes, but we think Mr. Peter
Kelly, of the Red Taver i, is our,
champion potato. grower. Last spring
he purchased a bushel of seed. pota-'
toes; this fall he had a wagon load
ee first class potatoes. Many of
these potatoes averaged 8 pounds
each. The seed of these 'potatoes was
brought from Algoma a couple of
years ago.

met with a nasty accident Tuesday
morning while attending a funeral at
Kingsbridge. After the burial ser-
vice he was turning around in his
°.motor hearse and failed to notice a
-clothesline. The wire caught him
under the chin, causing a severe
gash in the throat. An elderly man,
named Griffin, who was riding with
him had a number of teeth knocked
- .and was also badly cut about the
face. Dr. Simpson, of Kintail, dress-
ed the injuries, but on the arrival of
Mr. Brophy in torts, Dr. Whitely
found it necessary to put in some
stitches. Only prompt action , in
stopping the car prevented a more
serious accident.

CONSTANCE
Death of Mrs, Mann.—Mrs. James
Maim in her 77th year, passed away
at her home on Wednesday, November
10th.. She had been in failing health
for some time, but the end came sud-
den at the last. About two weeks
ago she fell from her chair and frac-
tared her collar bone, from 'which
accident she gradually became weak-
er until the final call came. She,
with her husband, spent the earlier
part of their lives on the 9th conces-
sion of Hullett, after which they mov-
ed to the 11th of McKillop, where
they toiled together until a few
years ago when they sold their farm
and came to Constance to fill out
the end of life's journey. She leaves
behind to mourn her loss, her hus-
band and four daughters, Mrs. Moore
of Toronto; Mrs. McArter, of Gode-
rich; Mrs. Anderson, of Hearst, and
Mrs. A. Nicholson, of Constance. The.
funeral took piac'e' from her late .reei--

LIVE STOCK MARKET
Union Stock Yards, Toronto, ,November '16.
—Trade in cattle opened decidedly slow to-
day and continued draggy to the close. The
run was a little lighter than a week ago,
and there were quite a few geed animals in
the offering, but this did not prevent prices
for all but the very best quality e1ip$ing
back from 50 to 75 cents per cwt. Even
heavy cattle, unless they were neat breedy
ones, lost value in the day's trading.- Choice
butchers brought $12 at the top, and there
was one exceptional lot, lit for Christmas
beef, that sold through the United Farmers'
Company for $12.50 per cwt. The only class
of killers- that sold freely was the canners,
but the price did not go beyond 31/2 cents
per pound.
_Stockers and feeders were in better de-
mand than for some time past, and the price
was a little stronger. One lot of 25 head, all
of Polled Angus breeding and averaging 950
pounds .apiece, were sold by Dunn and Le-
vack for $10,75 per cwt. There were several
lots of good feeders on hand, but the heavy
run of stockers, the result of the change in
the weather, included all sorts, mostly in-
ferior.
Calves were a light receipt; and general
quality was poor. The price held steady for
choice veal at 18 cents, with a few extra
choice calves bringing 1814e. Medium calves
sold at from 13 to 16 cents per pound.
The lambs in a fairly heavy receipt were
generally of good quality and the price was
fully 50 cents higher than Thursday's close.
One choice lot sold at 181 cents per pound,
and there were 90 in a lot that topped the
market at 131/s cents. Sheep were steady with
last week, but showed a stronger tendency.
Ottawa Valley lambs, which are well finished
and not too heavy at this time of year, figur-
ed heavily in the receipts.
Hogs sold steady at Thursday's dosing
price of $16.25 per cwt. fed and watered.
The receipts were 808 ears, with - 6,465
cattle, 234 calves, 1,523 hogs end 4,542 sheep
and lambs.
The quotations were:, Choice heavy steers,
$12.50, to $12.711; good heavy steers, $11.50
to 512.00 ; butcher Gattis, choice, 511.00 to
512.00; do., good, $9.00 to 510.00; do.,
