To The Man of 30
This is, perhaps, the most decisive period of your life.
If you are spending all your income NOW, a habit
is crystallizing which may cause your later years to
be passed: in poverty. You should face this truth
retrench. Why not cut down unnecessary
expenses and deposit some of your income in a
savings account ?
If you are married such a course is doubly important

THE FALL WEATHER
HARD'ON LITTLE ONES
Canadian fall weather is extremely
bard on little ones. One day is warm
and bright and the next wet and cold.
These sudden changes bring on ecoids,
cramps and colic and unless baby's
little stomach is kept right the result
may be serious. There is nothing' to
equal Baby's Own Tablets in keeping
the little ones well. They sweeten the
stomach, regulate the bowels, break
up colds and make baby thrive. The
Tablets are sold by medicine dealers
or by mail at 25 cents a box from The

PAINTER, TURN ThE
ROSE ON ME!
So says the house that is sadly in
need of a painting when the paint man
comes along with the "newest thing"
in paint machines. It consists of a
gasoline engine to furnish power, an
air compressor, yards of hose and the
can from which the hose gets its
jj aint. The tank holds se1ten gallons
of paint, which enters through a small
hole near the top. There is "a faucet
underneath to let it out i Tnecessary,
and gauges and safety vales decorate
the top so that no - acddentss 'will
happen. The whole ;outfit . can be
packed conveniently on an . orlinary
child's -express wagon.
Its advantages over the told way are
tumerot s = no waste, a. more even
finish, no scaffold to trip you (an ex-
tension pole is used instead), and last,
but not least, the work can be done
in about one-fifth the !role required
by ordinary hand painting. A little
nervousness on the part of the painter,
however, might result in unusual col-
oring of foliage on the lawn, and
perchance spoil the transparency of
the window panes.

"Having illustrated a few of the
more important uses to which steel
produced by coke. can be put, the use
of the two and one-half gallons of
benzole recovered from each ton of
coal is shown by pictures. It is ex-
plained that two and one-half gallons
of benzole, or the product of only one
ton of coal scientifically treated, is
enough to drive a lorry 20 miles, a
car 40 miles and a side car 150 miles.
The film provides the most convincing:.
argument in favor of using fuel other
than raw coal, for it brings right be-
fore our eyes the almost unbelievable
waste consequent upon theemploy-
ment of raw coal in this capacity,"
FROM- AN' OLD McKILLOP
CORRESPONDENT
Toronto, Oct. 14, 1919.
Dear Expositor:—This is Thanks-
giving Day and I presume that nearly
everyone has something to be thankful
for. The elections next Monday are
causing quite a commotion, and the
orators, both ley and clerical, are
displaying their eloquence. • I attend-
ed a prohibition meeting at Massey
Hall last Sunday. A lady presided.
The singing was nice. The speakers
were an American from Iowa and a
Japanese, who is studying for the
Methodist ministry at Victoria Col-
lege. The arguments in favor of Pro-
hibition were the same as usual. On
the following evening. I attended. ` a
meeting t the Foresters Hall'on Col=
ege street, one, "Kelly Evans, was the
orator. He spoke along the lines of
the Liberty League and quoted the
words of a sage, "Give me liberty, or
give me death." He told of the great-
est personage that ever trod this earth
converting water into wine by miracle,,
and that the followers of Mahomet
were the only total abstainers as ,a
body, and yet the most cruel and un-
merciful devils on the earth. And • so
it goes on in the halls and churches
and on the street corners. Both sides
intrude their particular views in an
offensive manner and in that respect
the prohibitionists are the greatest
transgressors.

must be the duty of Government and
the people of the community where
these soldiers, who are maimed and

that they suffer no further privations
or never know want. It must be ad-
mitted that many of them if they got
$2,000 would squander it in riotous
living and their last state would be
worse than their first.
Now,, a word about the coming polit-
ical contest and I am done. I have
attended meetings of both sides. There
are a large number here who have
educated themselves for the job, and
berths, upper and lower, are provided their speeches are fine and pleasant

The Canadian National daily trans-

Vancoiever made its initial trip from
Toronto with one of the very latest
type of steel tourist cars as part of its
equipment, the first of an order of
twenty such cars in whose construction
every point has been considered for
the safety and comfort of passengers.
This modern type of tourist care with
antitelescopic device is of similar de-
sign to the standard sleeping coach,
the exception being they are upholster-
ed in leather instead of plush.
Electrically lighted throughout, all

the ten seats in the city, including'
one or two ladies. The last meeting

of them being returned soldiers, also

from worry than anything else."
The sort of thing which the .speci.l-
