LIVE STOCK MARKET
Union Stock Yards, Toronto, July 22. -
With over 400 head df 'cattle here this morn-
ipg, trade started very slow and prices for
medium and lower qualities were reduced by
50 cent; through to, .5teers sold as high as
514.75 by on and twos, and a good idad of
butcher cattle was disposed of at $14.40.
-The yards were' crowded with common stuff
and nothing like a clean-up was effected. Good
butcher cows remained about steady with last
week's close, but there Were few of these in
the day's run. The supply of milkers and
springers was small and prices for the
latter were the same as last week according
to quality with dernandt fair, but milkers, un-
less of extra -merit were not wanted. Stock-
ers and feeders were not plentiful nor was
the demand ver 3P good. A few good feeders
were taken up at $11.50 to $12.00 for ex -
Port across the line.
There was a decided falling off in the
demand for small meats. The best lambs
sold to -day foe $e0.00, and the average for
fair quality stuff -in this line, was $19.00.
in fact, in the sheep line, good yearlings
were • the only class that remained steady,
all others being from a dollar to a dollar
and a half off from last week's close..,Top
quality calver etold at $19.0, a decline of a
dollar and a half, while common calves were
off more than two dollars in price.
The hog market as a whole, remained steady
at 524.50, fed and watered, -though packer
buyers this morning sent out quotations a
dollar and a quarter lower for the balance
of the week. their prices offered being $22.25
f.o.b., and $23.25, fed and watered.
The -receipts for to -day were 224 cars. with
4,240 cattle. 851 calves, 2,004 hogs and 930
eheep and lambs.

Montreal, July 22. -The offerings .of live

to be large, this morning's market at the
Canadian Pacific Yards amounting to 1,000
cattle. 750. sheep and lambs, 1,200 hogs ad
1,000calves. • Receipts at the wa3t end market
Were also large
The demand for good' to choice cattle' is
very good, but upplies of these grades are
not overly plentiful, which 'makes the prices
very firm. There is an increase 'in the
receive; of inferior grade cattle, - and Prim
on these are down. •
Small mettie are firrn, with a fair demand
for sheep and, lambs, while calves arenotso
active. Hogs continue strong, with choice
seiecte at 5e4, with the:usual reductions. -
Trading et the C, P. R. yards was active
but changes in prices were not in neidence.'
There was a good demand for butchers ;cattle
here et good figures, and practically all stock
on the local market was cleaned -up.
