LIVE STOCK MARKETS
Union Stock Yards, Toronto, June 10. With
the trade still slow values for cattle receded
another 50 tp 75 cents this morning. The
cut affected the light choice butchers and
the larger heavy cattle. There were a few
instances in which heavy steers dropped a
dollar. The offering numbered 3,300 head,
which was considered -more than the trade
could absorb and beld-overs were numerous.
With •the exception of 13 cents paid for a
few choice light steers the general top prtee
forthepick among the butchers was around
512.75. There were loads of decent looking
batolaers which a fortnight ago would have
cashed in up to 514 without trouble but to-
day the best bids ranged from $11.50e to
511.75. One reason for the slump trade/ is
atnaibleted th the outlet of Canadian and
American beef being shut down temporarily
owing to beef from the Argentine being ship-
ped into Great Britain and European parto in
large consignments. The market for cows and
bulla was not in any better condition, values
for top grade COW13 falling off another 50
cente. Common th fair cows and bulls were
75 cents cheaper than at last week's close,.
Further receseions appear probable before
the week is over.
There was very little call for feeders, but
stockere were wanted. So few were penned.
that orders could' not be filled. Milkers and
springers were Wily active and steady.
Sheep. both heavy and light, were easier,
Iambs steady but calves continued active and
firm, top veals selling from $16.50 to $17.
The hog trade' Woe \unsettled. Feidayls
prices, based on 521 f.o.b. was paid, but
thia morning the packer -buyers talked about
taking off 75 cents on Tuesday.
The receipts were 196 carloads with 3,330
cattle, 653 calv, 1,729 hogs and 416 sheep
and loaaste.
