Montreal, March 18. -The week' receipts of live stock at the West -end cattle market have been 500 cattle. 200 sheep and lambs, 1,100 hogs and 1,400 calve -s. Offerings of live stock at the market this morning were 800 cattle, 100 sheep and lambs, 500 bogs and 200 -...elealvTheseie was a, fairly active trade this morn- ing, especially in small meats, which were oin demand, and a good trade also in begs, which were much better in price than a week ago. Cattle prices, while firm, do not show much change from a week ago. The demand for choice stock is insistent - but offerings do not meet with it, as many are of inferior quality. The principal feature of the market is the hog eection, which is rap- idly advancing to its old top figures. Choice selects to -day were as high as $19.59. However, it is predicted in some quarter's that these limits will not last long, although such Predictions generally have little weight. At the Canadian Pacific stock yard.; the offerings for the week were 750 cattle. 1 sheep and lambs, 475 hogs, and 660 calv To -day the offerings were 450 cattle. 50 shee and lambs, 350 hogs, and 300 calve,. Tra jug was active here and the market wae gem erally cleaned up. Prices are well maintain and show little change from former quots Cons. Hogs are a strong feature. Packer-buyere, made a move today tower Pulling down hog -prices and while they di not succeed to any extent they sent out won that their fed and watered price was 519.0 There was sufficient competition to rnaintai to -day last week's closing price of $19.25, fe and watered. and 119.75, weighed all ca but there were itiote where $19.50 fed, sr paid. It is interesting in view of the Packe efforts to cut hog values to learn that in th conntry during the week ad, they paid 1 cents f.o.b., and in two cases at least 191gs which former price would make hogs, f andwatered at Toronto, $20. There was a return this morning to th higher prices and the active cattle trade o two weeks ago. The offering was little mor than half of the consignments of Wet Monday but the general quality was better. Righ from the commencement of business the mar ket firmed and values were pushed up 50 cent's for best butchers and 26 cents for the coramo to fair grades, Prime heavy cattle were to In evidence but good steers cashed in frorr $14.50 to $16 and choice butchers from $13.2 to $13.50, Cows were just a shade strong and active, and while nice light bulls me with a normal trade, heavy bulls were no wanted. Milken; and springers were slow. No bus - mess of any account among stockers an feeders were reported. The trade in calves suffered a bad bums) values for choice teals receding $1 per 10 Pounds, and for common calves the recessio was in the region of $2. Sheep and lambs were active and firm. The receipts were 157 cars, with 2,552 cat- tle, 588 calves, 4,659 hogs and 232 sheep an lambs.
