Montreal, March 18. -The week' receipts
of live stock at the West -end cattle market
have been 500 cattle. 200 sheep and lambs,

-...elealvTheseie was a, fairly active trade this morn-
ing, especially in small meats, which were oin
demand, and a good trade also in begs, which
were much better in price than a week ago.
Cattle prices, while firm, do not show much
change from a week ago.
The demand for choice stock is insistent
- but offerings do not meet with it, as many are
of inferior quality. The principal feature of
the market is the hog eection, which is rap-
idly advancing to its old top figures.
Choice selects to -day were as high as $19.59.
However, it is predicted in some quarter's that
these limits will not last long, although such
Predictions generally have little weight.

offerings for the week were 750 cattle. 1

efforts to cut hog values to learn that in th
conntry during the week ad, they paid 1
cents f.o.b., and in two cases at least 191gs
which former price would make hogs, f
andwatered at Toronto, $20.
There was a return this morning to th
higher prices and the active cattle trade o
two weeks ago. The offering was little mor
than half of the consignments of Wet Monday
but the general quality was better. Righ
from the commencement of business the mar
ket firmed and values were pushed up 50 cent's
