Montreal, December 3. -Receipts of livestock
at the West end market for the week have
been 3024 cattle, 3600 sheep and lambs, 3725
bogs and 800 caIvm. The offerings for to -day's
market amounted to 199 cattle. 3000 sheep and
Jambe 1090 hogs and 550 cattle.
Trading at this market was slow at the
beginning, but the tone of prices was better
and some advances have oceurred. While in-
-creas were not as marked as those that took
place Iaz.t week_ nevertheless the tone of the
market is quite strong, especially on fair to
choice stock. Calves are also storng. but hogs
are rather diappointing.

Union Stook Yards, Toronto, December 8.,
-Close upOrt. 9,000 head of cattle were for-
ward to -day, the biggest offering in the history
of any one day of the Toronto market. Cows
formed more, than half of the shipment which
comprised tor the greater part Poor oualitsr
stuff. Here and there were to be found small
lots of good to choice butchers and a few
nice stere ,and for thee the trade was
steady. Fr the common killers the market
fell off 25 to 50c. Hen with the bigger cut
snore in operation later in the day, it w
impossible to find a market for the "flood" of
off-color material and numerous loads had th be
held over. The best steeds on offer found val-
ues between $12.75 and $14, four head cashing
in at the latter price. Choice butchers were
steady and active from e1.50 to round $12;
but. lost among the other stuff. they required
a lot of eearching after. Best cows and bulls
ehld about steady, but the lower gradee were
easier in keeping with the weaker values
for steers and heifers. Canners proved the
exception. the raarket opening 25e down from
bet week, but picking up again when the
denten(' for eannem was found to be keen.
Only the best gradesf stockers and, feeders
off up 25c. Minces and springere were
,c.
were steady, the lieht common cattle being to
only a fair demand at values 510 lower than
a week ago, this morning's offering selling
from 575 to 5135 per head.
Small meats were the biggest offering on
record at Toronto, over 7,000 head of sheeri
and Lambe having been shipped in Lambs
were quoted 75c lower than last week but the
• buyer.; elaim that the meat is not any cheap-
er, 'tie the skin market has dropped 75e to
51 artil wool also is easier. Sheep values were
cut te e0c. Calves were steady and a fair
trade.
