• Serious Fire.—Tuesday evening of
last week the fire alarm Was rung,
owing to a fire in the large stable of
E Amen* factory. Sparks from the
factory had set fire to the rof and the
building was soon ablazeThe fire
engine was soon CAI duty t4rid with the
help of a busy -pail brigade added, the
'flames were fortunately confined to the
stable. It was a very hot fireebut by
hardework and a favoring breeze oth-
er buildiags were preserved. There
was- a large quantity of hay in the
etabie loft, oats, etc.. that went up in
smoke. The building was insured.
The stable was larg, and a good one,
() es to accommodate Mr. Ament's
numerous teams. It was a fortunate
thing for the towir as well as the pro-
prietor that the factory escaped. e Mr.
Ament had $800 insurance on the
building and $300 on the contents.
The probabilities are a new building
will. be built at once.

THE KAISER'S TALK TO HELL
The Kaiser called the devil up
On the telephone one day
The girl at Central listened, too,?.
To all they had to siea--
'Mello," she heard the Kaiser's voice,
Is old man Satan home?.
Just tell him this is Kaiser Bill,
That wants him on the phone.
The devil said hello to Bill.
And Bill said, "How are You?"
I'm running here a hell on earth
So tell me What to do.
'What can I ck the devil said,
Xy dear old Later Bill.
If thre's anartb*.1 caa do
To help you I. sureWill.
The kaiser said, now listen,
And I will try and tell
The way that I am running
On earth a modern hell.
I've saved for this for many years,
And I've started out to kilia
That will be a modern. IOU
You leave to Kaiser Bill.
My army went through Belgium,
Shootinz women and children down,
We tore lin all the country,
And blew 1.11D all the towns.
My Zepps dropped bombs on cities,
Killing both old and. young,
And those the Zepplins didn't set
Were taken out and hung.
I've started out for Paris,
With the aid of -oolsonaues gas
The 13elgimais—dam 'ern—stopped us,
And -wouldn't let us Pass.
My submarines are devils,
• Why, you should see them fight,
They go sneaking through the sea.
And sink a ship at sight.
was running things to suit me
Till a year or se ago,
When a man named_ Woodrow Wilson
Wrote me to ao slow.
He said to me, dear William,
We don't want to make you. sore,
So be sure and tell your U-beitts
• To sink our ships no more.
I did not listen to hire,
•
And he's coming after me
With a million Yankee soldiers,
From their homes across the sea.
• Now. that'swhy I called you, Satan,
For I want advice from you,
I knew that you would nen me,
just what I ought to do.
• My dear old Kaiser William,
There's not much forme to telt,
For the Yanks will make it hotter
Than T can for you in hell.
I've been a mean old devil,
But not half as -mean as you, . •
And the minutetthat you get here,
I'll give my job to you.
be ready for your doming,
And keep the fires all bright?
And have your room all ready
When the Yanks begin to fight.
For the boys in Blue will get you,
I've nothing mere to tell,
Hang up the -phone and. get youehat
And meet me here in hell.

A Successful Farmers' Chib.',
The history of some farmers' as-
sociations in Ontario has_ been brief
and lined with. troebles. Others have
builtuon.the rock and have en.dar-
ed. Why the difference?
Perhags a 'very short story will
explain the former case. A farmers'
club, organised by a district repro- •
3entative, got away apparently to a
good dart, then halted uncertainly
and finally died a lingering deatn
from general debility. When asked
to explain the reason the represen:
tative gave one--prompdy and with
emphasis. -
The club died because the farm-
ers didnt want it. The members
were easily persuaded to organize
but never tooa any real interest '111
it—they were never really convinced
that it was a vitel necessity.
"So far I. havea't heard any pro-
posal to revive it either, and I don't
•intend to attemet to inieea any arti-
ficial stimulation into it. When the
farmers in that district are really
"sold" to Ina idea of the neceseity
of organization, then we'll be in a
positiori to do some -,work."
That- 'explains the first cause of
raost feilures. Artificial stimulation
serves to cairy an invalid 'through a •
dangerous pass, 1 but as a steady diet
for a healthy boay it is foredoomed
to . failure. , A aorenerea association
must not be an annelid; when out -
aide stimilitgopLASS .tto .- be *Wen,ite
is a safe net nte days are nuto.bered.
But many others have succeedd.
Work — doing thing -s —as the secret
their succes. They make every
member consitous of thevalite of Qr.
ginization in tine community. The
eireititives are enlhusiastic, they have
developed progressive policies • and
they wark tdmake them successful.
And work honestly undertaken and
• wiaely direetedwiti alwys make
club or association successful if it
has the right ki•nd of- •Material to
work with. '
- In the eummerathe club ought not
to be allowed, to lose its grip.
How about it herd testing scheme—
has your club taken: that -up yet?
Perhaps those members needing
Arainage eau have surveys made of
tbeir fields, purchase co-opera-
tively, secure a traction ditcher, and
if need be, borrow provincial funds
to pay a large part of the cost. End-
less ways present themselves to make
the farmers' association a real force
in every month. Above all, don't for-
get the farmers' picnic—a little fun
makes the work more efficient.—

When the Blood is Out of Order the
Nerves Are in a Starved

The nerve system is the governing
system of die whole body, controlling
the heart, lungs, digestion and brain;
• so it is. pot surprising that nervous
disturbances should' cause* acute dis-
tress. The first stages of nervous de-
bility- are noted by ; irritability and
restlessness, in Which the victims
seem to be oppreased by their nerves.
The matter requires immediateeatten-
tion, for nothiner but suitable treat-
ment will prevent 'a complete break-
