The constant hacking cough that sticks
to you in spite of everything you have
done to relieve it, is a source of danger.
The longer the cough stays," the more
serious menace it is to your health.
It is easy to check a cough at the out
set with Dr. Wood's Norway Pine Syrup.
If you have let it run though, it -takes a
while longer to cure, but Dr. Wood's
Norway Pine Syrup will cpre it even
then after other remedies have failed.
Mr. J. Henry Landry, South Riven
Burgeois, N.8., writes: -"I received such
great benefit from Dr. Wood's Norvka
.Tine Syrup that I cannot help expreesing
nay thanks. I suffered with et" backing
cough for over a month, and could not
sleep at night. I used many kinds of
remedies, but they didn't do me any
good, until I used Dr. Wood's,' and
found great relief rightfrom the start.
I only used two bottles, and was com
pletely cured. I will never be without
it as long as I live."
There are a number of substitutes on
the market for pr. Wood's Norway Pine
Syrup, so when you ask for it see that it
is put up in a yellow wrapper; three pine
trees the trade mark; price 25c. and 50c.,
and that it bears the name, The T. Mil-

RASPBERRY LEAF CURL.
In the interests of market garde
ers and small. - fruit cultivators, thi
note on Raspberry ' Leaf Curlbas
been prepared et the Field Labaratorr
in Southern, Ontario at St. Catharines,
and is. issued by the Central Exeeri-
mental- Farm,' Ottawa. ,
• This disease has been known fOr
some thee both under the above name,
as well as under the name of -Rasp-
berry Yellows. Since the curling of
the leaves is the most outstanding fea-
ture in connection with the dseasia,
it is -preferable to use the terra Rasp
berry Leaf Carl.
The disease affects the leaves and
shoots end. is often confined to a single
bush or pa et of a bush, some of the
shoots being perfectly normal and
others with. the leaves affected, The
• affected sot, instead of produchig
normal. large, broad leaves, bear leaves
which are conspicuously small and
badly curled downards. In the early
stages this symptom is not so pro -
lammed, and while a small amount of
curling may occur then, the disease is
more noticeable on account of the yt.
lowing which takes place 'during tlae
SUMIner tte41.1Se of the unhealthaestate
of the foliage. Since yellowing of the
leaves may be due to a lumber of
other causes; such as wet feet, poor
soil, drought etc, it is best to de-
termine the disease mainly by the
Leaf Cur symptoms.
In the advanced stages, the canes
bear no fruit, When first attacked,
they flower almost normally, but the
ruit is small and dzy and shrivels up
before ripening, so that little or no
fruit is ever produced from an infect-
ed,bush. Of the three varieties whieh
are commonly grown in the Niagara
district, Cuthbert, Malborough and
Herbert, the Herbert seems to be the
freest from the disease. The other
two yvarieies\ ire quite susceptible,
but one rarely $ees signs of eaf Curl
in the Herbert.
So far as is known the disease is
not due to any parasitic organism. It
apparently belongs to that type of
trouble which has been called physiolo-
gical disease, and could therefore be
nut into the sarae class with. peach
yellows and little peah, and the mos-
aic diseases of tomatoes, tobacco, po-
tatoes and so forth. No records are
a,vailable as to how the disease is
brought into the field in the first place
nor how it is transmitted from one
plant to another. It uhdoubtedly
does spread once it becomes establish-
ed in a plantation and many fine plan-
tations are Imown to have been great-
ly injured by the presence of a large
number of Leaf Curl Plants. If the
diaesee corresponds closely with the
mosiac or yellow disease, one would
suspect that it is carried either by in-
sects or pruning operations.
Although too little is known ableat
Leaf Curl' to advise a sure means of
of control, one should always remove

disease to other parts of the panta-
eion. In taking out Leaf Curl plants,
one should be careful to get the whole
of root system, otherwise the parts
that are left will start to grow and
produce new shoots whicla win ow
allow Leaf Curl. It is possible that
sorde of our Leaf Curl originates from
nursery cuttings and some care should
be taken when setting out a TIOW plan-
tation, to avoid this disease.
