- Killed in Action -Word was receiv-
1id here on Saturday, by Mr. Houston
proprietor of the John street flour
lab, that his son, Lieut. Richard
Houston, had been killed in action
&utile the recent flirlitm* 11-. The
young office, who was about 25 years
of age, enbited in 1916 in the 36th
battalion, and went ,.to England itt
1916. Ile was for seine tiMe on the
staff of the Bank of Commerce here,
but a little prior to enlisting he had
taken a poeition with the MeLean
Publishing Company of Toronto. Be-
sides his parents he is survived by
two brothers, Frank of this town, and
George, at present in France with a
unit of. the C.P.A., and one sister.
The young hero was an active mem-
ber of the Methodist clihrch here and
was vary highly respected.

excursions from the east wages in
Manitoba have been Slightly increas-
ed, the prevailing wage offered to-
day being between $3.75 and $4 per

farmerz have offered even higher
pay for . thoroughly experienced men.
----James Harris of Walkereffle, and
Herbert Kimberly, of Windsor, em-
ployees of the Motor Products Com-
pany in Walkereille, were badly hurt
Saturday, when an explosion of unde-
termined origin- shook down some
bricks in the waist of the stockroom,
in whieli theywere werldng. Harris
sustained the most severe bruises,
while Kimberly was slightly burned.
