Toronto, July 3. -With the largest run of cattle on a Monday market for some weeks Past; the live stock trade at the Union Stock Yards yesterday was slow and draggy, with the price on good butchers pff a quarter, and on medium and common stuff 50 to 75c. Owing to the dot: being a holiday, by a rule of the stockholders, the market closed at twelve o'clock, with well over a thousand head still unaold. Trade was very dull at the opening, but be- tween 11 and 12 it became brisker and by closing time fully 2,000 cattle had changed hands. There were $er too many cattle offered, considerin the demand, and prices simply had to take a tumble. There was not much of what one would term very choice stuff on the market, but there were a large number of fairly good cattle. The Swift Canadian Company purchas- ed one load of heavy steers for $11.90, which was the top quotation of the day A few others brought $11.70., and some $11.50, but the general figure for good butchers on yesterday's market was from $10 to $11.35. Cows were quoted another quarter lower than the Close of last week's trade and butcher bulls also showed another de- cline of 25c. Cows were sold all the way from $5.50 to $9.50, according to quality, and bulls from $7.50 to $10. Fully 75 per cent. of the cattle offered yesterday were grass-fed, and from now it is likely that very few stall fed animals will be on sale. There was little demand for milkers and springers, but the offering in this department maintained a high stand- ard with prices about steady with last week. In the small meats department trade was about steady', with spring "lambs possibly a little lower, although Thursday's top quotation of $14.50 was obtained for a few. The price ran- ged from $12 to $14, the above men- tioned figure being exceptional. Heavy cows $8.50 to $9; good $8 to $8.50; medium $7.50 to $8; - feeders, -900 to 1000 lbs, $9 to $9.50; medium, 70$ to 800 lbs, $7.75 to $8.25; stoekers,700 to 900 lbs, $7 to 48.25; medium, .$6 to $6.50; canners $5.25 to $5.75; milkers, geocl to choice $90 to $120; counnon and medium, $40 to $80; springeta, $40 to $120; eaives veal choice, $12.00 to: $16; medibm, $10 to $11.50; com- mon, $6 to $8.50; grass $6 to $7; heavy fat to ;10.50; spring lambs $12 to $4 per cwt.; sheep, yearlings, cheicaclipped, $10 to $11; sheep, ewes, light eiltPed, $8 to $81511; heavy and tucks, $6.50 to $7.50; culls $4 to $5.50; hogs, fed and watered, $16.25; of ctrs, $16.50.
