Gregg -Powell A pretty wedding
took palce in Toronto at the home. of
the bride, on=Wednesday ev'enrng, Nov.
8th, when Mae Christina, daughter' of
Mn and Mrs. William Powell, of that
city, was united m marriage to Mr.
S, Harley Gregg,of Ingersoli;the 'cere-
mony being performed by Rev. J. A.
Stewart, pastor of :Kew Beach Presby-
terian church. The gbride, who is a
niece of Mr Louis Fleur`scheutz and
Miss Fleurscheutz, of Egrriondville,
andof the Messrs. Powell, of town,has
many -friends here who will join The
Expositor in extending congratula-
tions to the young couple.
The Town Council. --- The regular
meeting of the town council was held
on Wednesday evening. All the mem-
bers, excepte William Golding, were
present. The report of the Finance
Committee was adopted, acid accounts
to the amount of $683,24 were paid..
The clerk was instructed to pay the
Carnegie Library Board - $100, part of
the annual levy. Mr. A. McKay, engin-
eer at the waterworks, will be given
an extra, $5 per month until the end of
the yeas Mr. Alex. Davidson will be
permitted {to tap the water pipe of ;
the Collegiate Institute, the work to
be done under the supervision of the ,
chairman of the Fire and Water Coen- I
inittee. The clerk was instructed to
prepare a by-law regulating the hours
for sale of meals in restaurants on 1
Sunday. At the next meeting the mo
tion to amend by-law No. 175, re wat-
erworks extension, will be introduced.
Interesting Lecture. --The following
is an extract from the Ottawa Jour-
nal: "Those who were fortunate en-
ough to hear the adress of Miss Til-
lotson, a native of Quebec, but. a_resi-
dent of the Hawaiin Islands for , a
number of years, given in Stewarton
churchlast night under the auspices
of the Young People's Society, were
'given a most interesting talk of a
very educative nature. - Miss Tillot-
son was dressed in the native costurae.
This talented lady is to giveher lee. -I
ture in the 'Presbyterian - curch on
Wednesday evening next, November
22nd, under the auspices of the Wom-
en's War Auxiliary. There will also be
a umber of good musical selections.
Apart from the merit of the entertain
ment the work of the Auxiliary should
be a strong appeal for a good audience
on Wednesday night. .

passed away at her home in Egond-
ville, on Mclnday morning last, in the
person of Mrs. William McDougall, in
her 79th year. The deemed had been
ailing for some time and her ,death.
was not unexpected. Mrs. McDougall
has resided nearly all her life in Eg-
mondville, where she was respected.
and loved by all for. her - kindly ways
and true -Christian character, but it
was in the home where her true merit
was known and where her ;presence
will be so keenly missed. Besides her
husband she is survived by two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Charles Stewart, of . Port-
land, Oregon, who was home during
her mother's illness, and Miss Nellie,
at home, all of whom have the sincere
sympathy of the community in their
great loss. The remains were laid to
rest in the Maitlandbank cemetery on:
Wednesday.

wrist fractured a couple ,of months
ago can not make use of it yet, He

WINTHROP.
Killed in Action.—Many in this vi-
cinity will regret to learn of the death
of Albert Bates, who was killed in
action at the front on October 21st,.
in [ his 33rd year. The late Private
Bates resided here with his foster -par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. McElroy for
over. twelve years and about thirteen
years ago. he moved to the west and
for a time carried on a successful bus-
iness as builder and contractor at
Swift Current, _ He was married to
Miss Marie Eaton, who was also
brought up by Mr. and Mrs. McEl-
roy, but she died three years ago,
leaving. a family of three children,
When the war broke out he enlisted
with the Mounted Police, later join-
ing a battalion at Saskatoon, coming
east to say ;goodbye to his friends in
this section about. a year' ago, having
sailed for overseas on December 8th
last.

about three hundred wen selected
books and new ones are added fre-
qaently. It is only a little over a year
since the library was established and
it hes given much pleasure to a large
number. Much credit is due Rev. Mc-
Farlane and Rev. Rickard and Rev.
Jonee, who were mainly lestrumental
in oiganizing the library. .
The Late Mrs, McLweri.• The fun-
eral of the late- Emma Sarah Peck,
wife of Mr. Fred McEwen, took place

of the International Bible Students

er, and Robert Reid. The late Mrs.
McEwen was the eldest daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peek, of the front
road, Stanley, She was born in 1885
and was married in 1913 to her now
bereaved husband. She had lived in
this eommunity all her life and was
greatly respected by all who knew
her. [ She is survived by her husband, ;
her Parents, three brothers, Mr. R. :
Peek, of ,London, and Wesley and i

of Toronto, and Maggie of 'Hamilton,
