Milburn's Lasa -Liver Pills gently;
unlock the secretions, clear away all:
waste and effete matter from the system,'
'and give tone and vitality to the whole
intestinal tract.
They do this by acting directly on the
liver, and making the bile pass through
the bowels instead of allowing it to get
into the blood, and thus causing consti-
pators, jaundice, catarrh of the stomach
and•similaar troubles.
Mrs. L. M. Ratchford, Peterboro, Ont.,
writes: "Having been troubled for
years with constipation, and trying many
different remedies which did me no good
whatever, I was asked. to try Milburn's
Lara -Liver Pills. 1 have found them
most beneficial, for they are # indeed
splendid pills, and I can gladly recom-
mend them: to all people who suffer from
constipation."

The Red Cross Tea, Rouse
r - q,By 'mol Stockton)
Situated near Government House, the
Viceregal residence in Ottawa, on a
hilly slope overlooking the Ottawa Riv-
er, Roakcliffe Park, whether in the lux-
uriant greenery of summer or in tho
barren but still lovely garb of snow;
;is undoubtedly the most beautiful ;-spot
In the vicinity ai' Canada's capital.
On hese inow glad. hills in the win-
ter time one. sees -every afternoon, and
often •on . moonlight nights, merry
throngs of people enjoying the skiing
and tobogganing. Sometimes a bobsleigh
is skilfully guided through a rather
intricate path 'between pine trees, that
stand ,fresh and men as, ever among
the other bleak, leafless branches.
OA the' top of one of Rookcliffe's
highest hills , overlooking what le
known as Gorerner's Bay, there Mood
formerly a rather picturesque log -house,
which had been erected some years age
by the Ottawa Improvement Commis-
cion.Seeing. what opportunities 'were
afforded by the position of . this but
for an enterprise of the sort, Mfrs.
Kingsmill, wife of Admiral Kingsmill,
had: this log cabin converted --into a
tea -house, the walla built in, and the
Inside prettily decorated with bunting,
•flagSe nd softly shaded colored lights.
mere every afternoon M'rs. Kingsmill,`
assisted by a number of her friends
and a staff of servants, serves tea in
aid of, the Ked Cross Land Belgian Re-
lief funds.
Twice a week the; tea -house is open
in the evenings, a. people may order
supra or sit down to the plain but
picturesque fare, So 'highly suitable in
such surroundings, int ';the Canadiai
shanty -man -pork and beans and brown
bread. Apple tarts and crullers, as well
as Canadian .geese, are added to this
typically Canadian repast, if the sup-
per dare brave such unwholesome dain-
ties ; and, indeed, after a strenuous
climb .up»•the steep incline of 'the to-
boggan slide, or a number of long runs
rola skis an the clear, frosty air, one
.may feast on wtat one chooses ,without
fear 'of offending one's digestive aper-
acus.
I-lolne.made maple cream, itne- Cana-
diar} national sweet—if there tee one—
made out 'of rich crearr9 and maple
sugar, is also sold at the tea house
for the same good cause.
Saturday and Sunday are the big
days, when the ..famous ski-jumping
cohtests occur, from a stand erected
not Or from the tea house. On these
days the p see is jammed all the after-
noon, the only difficulty being . that
many . of the cold and hungry multi-
tude, attracted by the jumping, have to
be turned away on accounf of lack of
epees in the tea house. Their Royal
Highnesses_ the Duke an; Duchess of
Connaught have given their patronage
to Mrs. Kingsmill's venture, and his
Royal' Highness has honored the tea
house by taking tea there once or
twice. Princes' Patricia,. accompanied
cher •1ad•yein *aittng, Miss Adam, and
members of the. staff, occasionally
drops, in to tea quite informally after
sus has been lak4 ing`on the Rocketiffe
hills ,
Private tea parties are given almost
every afternoon, and .the tea house has
become quite a, meeting place for peo-
ple. The boys and girls run In after
sliding or ski -Ing often two or thea
times in the afternoon to spend their
pocket money on sweets and hot drinks
firs. Kingsmill, to whose indefatig-
able efforts the success -of the . tea
house is due, has aireadf been able
to hand in two substantial cheques
to the Red. Cross and Belgian Belief
Fundis and .she limes to double or even
quadruple these amounts.
When I visited the tea house a gold-
en -red sun was `shining on the .pictur-
esquk9 little log cabin, touching with
a ruddy glow a -number of icicles which
hung from the low roof. About tme the
pine trees quivered as if they were
cold in :the gbeeze of a February- after-
noon. Beyond hills and endless hills of
snow,' dotted with groups of Meiners ih
costumes of the most vivid colors —
scarlet, blue, pink, yellow and sombre
grey. A sherry throng, their faces rud-
dy from the exercise, unfastened their
skis. amidst jokes and some tumbles
from the inexpert outside the door pre-
-paratory to entering. T• he sun sank suddenly, and. all was
cold and grey and. white, but the lights
;from the log cabin glowed warm and
Ibright, and 1 entered and ordered ,ttea
':.with the satisfied sensation that I was
'enjoying myself as well as helping on
=a good cause.
