DISTRICT MATTERS.
Why. Noti Huroir Too 9 ---The Perth'
County Council, have passed a pod
roads by-law, which, if legalized by
the Legbilature, will be of great ad-
vantage to the county. This by-law
is an exact copy of the 'by-law pained
by the ',Donnell of the county of Mid-
dleeex and legalized by the Legisia-
/tuna. ,The Perth tounty council are
[trying to have this byelaw legalize
\ed: also, and it is altogether likely
this- •will be done foe Perth •county
the sa.rne as it Waft done ter Middle -
flex. The intentionof the by -1a W is
• to enable 'the municipalities in the
county to get the benefit of the Gov-
ernment Good Itoadla Mint and • at
the earne time leave all the actual
work, to be • done in 'the !heeds of
municipal coancils, and the byelaw
includes the towns and villageth as
well leff:the townehips. Under the sta-
tute, town se and villages are not in-
cluded, and ithe effect of this by -lar
will be to bring Lietowel, Mltehell
and Mllverton Within the scope of the
Act and enable them to ehare in the
Government grant for moneY expend-
ed oni, roads and ,bridges, $1 " being
given' by the Gavernment_ for every' $2
spent by the local rxkunicipality. •Why
should not the •Huron County Coun-
cil take Similar action? A copy of
this by-law Should be procured and
•the matter e'hould be considered at
the next meeting of the County
Council. Huron is a large contribut-
or to •the - Provincial revenue and
•there 10 no just rea,son Why it should
not participate' in a general distri-
bution of eurplus funds -When it is to
• be made to other • counties. Huron e.s
•Situated .very much the gaime as
Perth and Middlesex and if they can
get a elice of the good 'things going
why should not we?. •What .es a,dean-
• tageous to them can not be hurtful
to ns. If they can get the Govern-
ment to 'pay one-third of the cost of
cohstructing their new bridges raid
improving their roads why should
not we ? • Perhaps Seaforth could ev-
en get Goderieh Street and North
Main. Street macadamized under this
system.
