• Hon. Mr. Foy, Attorney General in
t the Whitney Government and who
was for -a time, Comroissioner of
Crie,vn Lands, in a speeoh delivered
:by hina in Kingston lest Saturday
night, made a very serious charge
against his predecessor in office.
The gravamen ,of the charge is that
a firm of lumbermen became pos-
eessed of a. section 'of pine timber
twelve , by eighteen miles square.
and that they did not pay anything
for the e,ame or if they did there.is
no record- in the books of the De-
partment of any value having been
xeceived for it. This is the first real
• 'charge of daministrative dishorfeety
that has eever been made against tbe
Liberal Government daring their 33
years of office. It is a eharge of
isueh a serious hatuee that the
party cannot afford:Le rest under it.
. It is but fair to say that Hon. Mr.
Davis, who was in charge of the De-
partment wben the steal was said to
be made, denies the accuracy of Mr.
Foy's statement. Mr. Davis has at;
ways been regarded by the p little
as an honest and hontrable man fled
althouagh he is not now in Pa. lia-
ment flie- owes it to hbateelf, and the
public to dear up this matter.' It
should be one of the first duties
of the leader of the Opposition
mr,lieri the Legislature meets to de:
araitrid and tsboure a committee of in-
iestigation so that this matter may
be probed to the bottom and the
-truth reached. Although -the late
