—Mohard Deker :has sold his farm, lot
1-24, concessitn 15, Goclerich township, core

$5,.000°, to Roland Jenkins. On the place is
a fiae dwelling and excellent barn and out-
buildings.
—A fire started in the carding room of
the flax mill at Stretford, the other day, and
got quite a headway before it could be ex-
tinguished. About 75 people will be thrown
oat of employment, for a few days until the
'damage can be repaired.
—Norman Walton, son of Henry Walton,
Stratford, who has held a position in the
office of G. C. Jones, at4perintendent. of the
middle division G. T. F. at Toronto, since
Auguat, 1900, has just been promoted to be
Mr. Jones' private seer4tary.
—As a result of. the levers 'frost lately,
John Jervis, brick menufacturer, of the
Little Lakes, says he hid about 40,000 green
brioke destroyed in the yard. Besides be-
ing quite a financial lose, this will delay Mr.
.Jervis considerably in filling orders.
—Mies Mary Ei:zabeth MeGreger, second
(laughter of the late Alexander McGregor,
for many years edunty , treasurer of Perth,
was menisci to Mr. Jerhes Woods, of Edin-
burgh, Sootland, et Ballinger, Texas, on
April 27th. They a ill reside at the groom's ,
house in Edinburgh, Scotland. Mita Mc-
Gregor was well known in St. Marys.
—Elizabeth Hermiston wife of Mr.
George Arnold, of Atwood, died last week

of cancer of the breast Mrs. Arnold was
1,57 years of age and for 22 years had been
suffering front the cancer. She was born
near Kiegaten and after her marriage lived
•in Linwood before comtng to Atwood some
eight years ago. A hutband and two eons

survive.
—Frank Struthers, who was employed

of Stratford, and who has been employed of
' late with Metiers. Ornesitead & Hindman, of
' (Maws., has sacured the poeition of assist-
antinspector of watches on the C. P. R.

—John Roxburgh, jr. 'son of Mr. John
Roxburgh, of Avonbank, Downie township,
--died at F'hoeuir, Arizona, on Tuesday, May
IV]. Mr. Roxburgh has been euffering
from pulmonary tronbles for several years,
and went out west in the fall of 1900 in the
hope of benefieting his health. He was
about 40 years of age and leaves a widow
and one child to meurn his demise.
—W. D. Robb, the new euperintendent
ef motive power on the Grand Trunk Rail-
way system, accompanied by W. Kennedy,
master mechanic of middle division, and N.
B. Whitsel, master mechanic at Allendale,
pail a visit of inspection to the 0-: and
`Trunk shops at Stratford, on Friday last,
andsaid that plans had been prepared for the
new tender shops, wlltich would soon be
-erected there.
—Owl morning last week the two Misses
Ruseell and Miss Dobsion, of Mitchell, drove
down to Fullerton and stepped in front of
the store and prepared to get out. How-
ever, the horse moved and the driver un-
fortunately pulled thellwrong line and upset
the buggy. Rev. A. loorehouse, who was
elate by at the time, quickly caught the
horse before any damage was done, The
girls all escaped, but tae buggy was some-
what damaged.
—a W. Thomson, of Stratford, has a
photograph of the city of St. Pierre, Mar-
tinique, West Indies, which was destroyed
several days ago by volcanic eruption. Mr.
Thomeon vitited St. 1 Pierre while on a
-pleasure tour during the 'winter of 1896 and
he remembers it as quite a busy place. In
the background of the city is seen the . vol-
•eano. Mr. Thomson secured the picture- at
the time of his visit.
—Mr. and Mrs. Alec. Madill, Stratford,
ceiehrated their silver wedding last week,
and were the recipients of hearty felicie-
ations from their many friends. Quite a
number of guests were present, all of whom
pronounced their hoat and hostess to be
capital entertainers. Among other numer-
ous presents, emblematio of the occasion,
Mr. Madill was presented with a diver -
headed oane and Mrs. Madill with a hand-
lorne tea set.

were sold by auction at Grand's to -day, the
offerings consisting- mtinly of drivers arid
general purpose animals. One of the best
sales was that of a pair of nice brown
carriage horses, which sold for 8260 for the
pair. Other drivers fetched $90 to $115
