MELOTTE
MODEL
Don't buy a Cream Separator until you
have seen the 1902 Melotte Model. One.
third to less power rtquired than others.
Machine cut gearing of gun metal and
phcsper bronze, and are fitted with a brake
attachment, found on no other Separator.
Top of tank only 44 inches above floor, easy
to put milk into; being low &ran, has no
topbeavinesa to cause vibration, which i3
the chief wear of Cream Separatore. Sell
balancing bowl, bowl casing coated with
white porcelain, more durable than tinware.
Discs are aluminum, which will not rust
. The Melotte handle can he taken cff and
put on without wreach or screw -driver, but
wiIi not fall off. A great advantage, as
Separator handles should be put out of the
reach of children when not in use. The
• Malotte bowl spindle has only one bearing,
other Cream Separators have four or five,
which means extra. wear. Reduced prices,
increased -capacities, sold on easy terms.
We also handle Farm Implements and
Machinery, Deering, Wilkinson, Noxon
Drills, Windmills, White Engines and Sep-
aratots, also Tolton goods.

It has cost nothing for repairs. I think it the beat
and easiest running Separator on the mark et. I am
welt satiated both for durabilloy and clean skim-

Seafetth, hruary 26, 1902 -Dear Sir: 1 have
tired Melotte Separator two years. The longer we
use it the better we like it, We can sit on a ttool
and turn it easily. The e is no apparent wear to be
seen. It looks as good as new. Geo. A. Gray.
Sesicrth, February 25, 1902.-0entIemen . The
Elea 1 Melotte I purchated in November, 1899, has
ghen the beet of eatisfaction in every respect. In
that time we have separated 126,000 pounde of milk,
and the Seperatcr wan turned by a boy who was 12
yeare old this month. It I had to go back to the old
way of skimming, I would go back on the cows.

CURIOUS KOREAN CUSTOM
The Battle of Stones Markit
Beginning eat Nevr-irear.
One of the most I curious ;CUStOMIS in
Korea marks the advent of the nelyl
year. This is the battle with stone,
participated in by inhabitaints of Seoul.
At a spot about a Mile arid:a half outs,
side the city walls, on the Main road
the Han river, the people assemble` b
thousands either as witnesses of or p
ticipants in this truly remarkable ex
bitten of warlike good will.: By prevIi•
ous arrangement piles of stones are in
readiness; all carefully seletted and of
a convenient size.
Without previous selectiOn of comet
hatants the participants form them4
selves into opposing arealee, about th*
only qualification for serviee being ark
parently the ability to hurt a stone
the advancing forces of the l enemy. At
first the stone throwing'is 84 long rang
and uninteresting, but as the throwin
continues the forces draw hearer, an
the fight waxes fast and furious, me
being detailed to colleet the i atones into
for the firing line. Th the elas
heaps again or fetch fresh4mmunitio
comes, the two bodies meeti fierce rush,
es are made, stones are dienarded, and
knives and clubs are freely used. The
clash of weapons, 'the screams of the
combatants, the surging n:iass of men,
soine being trampled to ideatb, noW
falling, now struggling to ttpeir feet, tne
blood flowing from numer us cuts-stne
whole -goes to make a pictlure that de-
picts anything but the joy leve attribute
to the coming of a new year. The fig t
is kept -up until the clang icif the gre t
city bell tells the combatants that it s
,
time to return hoine. •
Perhaps the most singnlar featu
of the celebration is that l during te
remaining eleven months ;of the ye r
the Korean is as amia.ble:a person s
can be found in any country, .and y
some writers the average Korean is
characterized as the most abject cow-
ard on the face of the earth.
But, cowards or no chwards, the
Korean people still indulge, as they
have for years, in this annual warlike
welcome of the new year.; Indeed it is
legal in Korea to fight not only on
New Year's day, but dining the first
moon or month of the year. The c -tis -
tom has become a national InstitutiOn,
sanctioned by the government lied
patronized by the king and the nobili-
ty. The police attend the battles, bnt
merely to keep order among the specta-
tors. Fighting is the Korean's prive:
lege with the advent of each new year,
and he is expected to exercise that
privilege to the extent of his ability' if
he would be accounted a 400d, conntry
loving Korean.

Florence Nightingale** Real Name.
The fact is but little known. that the
family name of Florente Nightin,g.ale
was not originally Nightingale, blult
Shore. Her father was s. rick Sbefileld
banker of the name of laore ,and con-
nected with an old faniily which bad
been in possession Of land in the con
ties of Derby and York since the ft

name of Nightingale long after the
birth of his children and because he; in-
herited the fortune and estates of bis
mother's uncle. There ;were but two
children in the family, both gpls. The
eldest was named Parthenesse, be-
