[Written for TILE EXPOSITOR.]
A patriotic elector, living in the constitu-
ency repreatented by Hon. G. W. Rose,
en hearing a man insisting that Eng-
land won the victory, wrote these verses
in reply :
Now let us get the matter right,
' Will Kitotener, Kenny and General White,
Or any other general in the fight,
Say England won the victory?
No doubt the Englishmen aro brave,
But British right is all 'we oravo,
Lord Roberts, air, must be a knave,
If England won the victory.
Where was the horn of the Soudan,
Or whore was the Highland Gordan elan,
Or Roberto the brave frishlr
When England won the victory
Where were the British Grenadiers,
Or our Canadian vo'unteers,
Where were the Iris Fusiliers, _
When England won the victory,
It is the British that you mean,
For Irish men, it esn be seen,
With men that came from Aberdeen,
They helped -and won the famous victory.
Now let them divide the honors fair,
And give the Irishmen their share,
And the Gordon Highlander who were there,
And helpei to gain the victory.
Now, as 3 ou all well know,
An Irishman has to do twice
As much as any other countryman,
Before ho gets half the praise.
It was the noble Gordan Highlanders,
The brave Irish Fusiliers,
And tho celebra,ted Canadian voluotcers,
Led by three brave Iriehmtn,
As you all do plainly know
That won the victories
For obi England anci our Queen.
