trade has antlered already. Buyers seem in-
different, and are holding off on account of
the threatened spell of mild weether. The
receipts were large amcl some of the fowl
were of excellent quality, but trade was
slow. Turkeys are lower at 8 to 9o, and
chickens aro• eesier, walling at 25 to 503.
Ducks are hafaii demand at 50 to 70e, and
gem are steady at 6 to 0an.

-The demand is keen, but the offeringe are

Tortoaao, , December 19 --The offerings
were not large, but there was a steady de-
mand.and everything sold well. Prices are
steady at $4 60 to $5 for choice, and $4,25 to
$4,60 for light. Dealers say- that the eon-
dition of the -British maiket 'does not war-
rant such high quotationte for (Attie here,
but they are not disposed to reduce them if
the right- sort of cattle are °Mired. Any
beast that approaches a condition to ship
will sell, but there are few of that oleos of
cattlo. to be had at present. Butchers' Cat-
tle-Choioe picked lots of butchers" cattle,
equal in gaality to the best exporters,
weighing 1,000 to ;1,100 pounds* each, for
:Xmas trade, sold at $4.40 to $4.69. Loads
of good butchers' cattle sold. lat $3,90 to
$4 25, and medium butehers', • mixed cows,
heifers and seers, $3,50 to $3 65 per cwt.
Common butchers' cows, $2 75 to $3, while
inferior rough cows and bulls sold at $2,40
to $2.75 per ewt. Heavy Feeders. -Heavy
steers, weighing from 1,000 to 1,150 pounde
°eche of good breeding qualities, sold at
sam to $3,90 per met, while those of poorer -
quality, but -Same weights, sold at $3 40 to;
$3_60 per owt, Short .Keep Feeders -Steers,
1,100 to 1,200 pounds each, that are in good
condition, and require 'finishing for export,
sold at $4 to $4 25 per cwt. Light Feeders
-Steers weighing from 800 to 900 pounds,
sold at $3 to $3,25 per cwt. Feeding Bulls
-Bulls for the byres, 1,100 to 1,600 pounds
each, sold at $2 75 to $3 25 per cwt. Buf-
faao Stockers -Yearling steers, 500 to .700
pounds each, sold at, $2 25 to $3, and off col-
ors and those of inferior quality it $1,75 to
$2 per owt. Stock Bulls --Yearling bulls,
600 to 900 peunds eachesold at $2 to $2.25
per cwt. Milch Cows -Ten milch cows and
springers were sold at $30 to $50 eaoh.
Hogs -Best select bacon hogs, not less than
160 nor, more then 200 pounds each, unfed
and unwatered, off ears, sold at $5 874 per
cwt ; lights, $5,50, and fats $5 50 per cyst,
lineulled bar lots of hogs sold at $5,60 to
$.7() penatiwt.

Dairy Markets.
MONTREAL., December 18 -Cheese ---The
market is very quiet, as buyers and sellers
are apart in their views. Tbe quotations
are : Finest western Septembers, 11 to
liao ; finest western Octobers, 10a to 110
finest eastern, 10. to 10o; under grades,
10 to lOac. Butter -The demand is good
and prices are very firm. We quote :-Fin.
est creamery, 2Ia to 22o ; seconds, 21 to
21c; western dairy, 18 to 19e. Eggs -
There is a fair trade at ateady prices. Fall
laid are Fuelling at 24e, Montreal limed at 15
to- 16e, and cold storage stook at 11 to 15e
per dozen.
Totaniao, December 18 -Butter -There is
a good demand for choice data and trade is
active; Reeeipta of large rolls were heavy
and they were quoted slightly firmer at 17
to 181c. Pound rolls are also firmer, selling
at 1S to 19ao, Jon* grade rolls are worth
15 to 17e, and poor lots of tub butter are
worth 13 to 15e. Greamery is firm and ac!.
tive. • Printfeare be good demand at 22 to
23e, and siilids are selling ' at 20. to 22e.
- Eggs -There is a good demand for new laid
at 25 to 23e, but offerings are very light.
-Trade is quiet, with a small demand for the
other kinde. Selects are selling at 20 to 21c,
ordinary held at, 10 to 18a, and pickled at
15 to 160. Smalls are worth 12 to 14o, and
splits are quoted at 9c.

MONTREAL, December 18 -The butchers
were out in full force and prime beeves were
in good clenusnd at from 41 to 4a3'per pound,
and one load of Christmas beeves was sold
at about 50 per pound, George Niaholtion
paying rie per pound for six head. Pretty
good twit -nate euld at from 31,- to 40, and the
common stock at from 23 to 3ao per pound.
There were na good veals on the market,
although there were several thet would
weigh 400 to 300 pounds, but the butchers
considered thent to be too old for good veal.
Sheep aeld at from 21 to ;ate per pound ;
good lambs at from 41 to 44e, and common
l'ambe at from 34 to 4c per pound. Fat hogs
are plentiful and lower in price. Good
straight loaf sold at from 5a to 5ac per
pound, weighed off the cars.
