ROYAL TEMPLARS OF TENIPERA.NCE. -The
annual meeting of the Huron District cotm•
ci1 of the Royal Terriplers of Temperance
will be held at Kippen on Tuesday, janu--
ary 28th, 1896, commencing at 10 o'clock
a. m. All the eouncils are requested to
send a fall representation, and. furnish CM-
plete reports. They are also requested to
send, before the 25th inst. the namee of
those 'who will attend as delegates, to Mr.
S. Thomson, Kippen. Rev. W. M Butt, of
Centralia, is the secretary.

: meeting, on 'Tuesday, January the

Denim Meearta.-The semi-annual
district me ting of the Oddfello-ws was, held
in the hall here on Wednesday afternoon.
In the eve ing a lodge of instruction was
heid, when about 100 were present, lodges
from Clint n, Exeter 'and Hensel:1 taking
part. A n .mber of candidates were also
initiated. At the close of the lodge an ad-
journment -wail made to the Commercial
hotel,wher a Sumptuous supper was served.
Old Fidelit lodge, whieh for a long: time
has been umerically weak, although Ifinain-
cially etro g, is taktng a boom upward, and
bids fair to bootee one of the strongest in
town.

HURONITES IN ALGOMA.-Mr. Wm.lCash,
formerly of MeKillop, writing from Desert,
Algoma, op January 6th, says : I" The
weather haS been very variable here So far
this e winter,- running from 60 and *above
freezing to 35 below zero on the 4th of this
month. There are a number of schoolteaoh-

Mr. Forest, from Stanley, is prime pal of
Theesalon 'school ; Cain, from Ho halt, is

WORK AND PLEASURE.-LAfter the
evening cheeses at the Young •Men's
'Mau Association rooms, on Tuesday
last, a pleasant change was given th

nd literary programme. Pleasing vocal
solos were rendered by Mrs. W. H. Willis
end Miss Traoksell ' a huneoraus Scotch
reading by Mr. Joian E liott, and an in-
structive reading by Mrs. E. MeFau , were
also much appreciated. A few word of en-
bouragement aid advice were given Ily Mr.
C. Clarkson. Mr. T. 0. Kemp also : presi-

THE MEDICA.L ASSOCIATION. -A inCeting
of the Huron -Medical Association wee held
in Seaforth on Wednesday last. There was
a good attendance of the leading mtlical
men Of the count . Dr. Shaw, of Cli ton
was elected prem. ent for the current year a
Dr. Mackay, Sea orth, vice-president; and
Dr. Turnbull, linton, secretary. Dr.
Brown, of Toro to, was in attendance in
the interests o the Dominion Medical
Monthly Magaz ne. Several interesting
papers were read and discussed. A resolua
tion, regretting t e departure of Dr: Gamp-
bell from this c unty, and recommending
him to the profe Sion of Brooklyn, here
he intends locati g, was unanimously p ssed
and elicited com hmentary remarks from
several of the ge tlemen present.

COUNCIL MEETING. -The last me ting of
the 1895 et:mitten was held on Mond y eVen

electric light company was paid the mo int
a balance ,of $84.30. John Sutherla d as

annual grant for 1895 of $200 to he re
brigade and $50 to the chief was rdeeed
to be paid. Other accounts to the monnt
of $259.94 were passed for paymen . The
mayor was requested to call a publi meet-
ing of the ratepayers on Friday e 'ening
January I7th, for the discussion of the by-
law to be Submitted on the 20th. R. Logan
was granted a rebate of $4..75 on taxes en
the bank burned last spring. This closed
the business and the couneillors departed,
some to return again as members of tl e
nouncil for 1896, aild others retire and b -
come every day eitizens again. •The ne v
council will be sworn in on Tuesday next.

address to Brot er Dr. Campbell; on the eve
of his departu e from town. The address
