THE HURON EXPOSITOR "2-•• - What Will My Baby Be EY TIMOTHY exam What does my belay's face express, As her little (taw_ look into mine ? Wbat baby thoughts prompt her tiny caress As her arms around nty neck entwine? Her trine expresses her innocent trust In rue ; and her innocent glee Calls forth her caress while clasped to 14 breast, Or &laugh as she sits on my knee. What thoughts are mine, as! rook her to sleep, Cuddled close to my side, so warnt ? What hopes spring up, as I see her ereep Towards me with outstretched arm ? Do I rock to sleep some Jennie Lind, Whose voice, sweet with music shalt ring With message of heavenly love, and find It her joy to sing to her King? Do my arms unfold an Elizabeth Fry, Whose mission on earth, so blest, Was to care, for the fallen'whose low sad cry, Never failed to bring her bequest ? Or, perhaps, a Florence Nightingale, Looks, trustingly, up to me ? Ora Frances Wil ard, who can tell, Pleadioir her Temperance plea. Or, maybe, the little hand I hold, Is that of an embryo wife, Whose modest mission is simply told By her own domestic life. Or an earnest soul, on missions bent, Far away on a foreign soil. Whose lifn of love for Christ is spent, In unceasing Christ -like toil. ° Perhape her little lovely face, Will, in maturer years, Show forth the beauty of God's grace, And gently dry the tears Of those whose path is marked by sin, Far on the downward road, And teach them how the crown to win; Andlearn the way to God. Or, maybe, she In humble sphert, Shall have no claim to fame Shall wear no laurel crown down here Nor wide -renown, nor name; But in her plaae, where duty calla, Well find her, ever doing Whatever to her lot befalls, An upward course pursuing. The future time alone can tell, My baby's place and mission, What talents will be hers to use, What tastes and what ambition, But whether high or whether low -My darling's place shill be, My wish for her is, may she know Dear Savior none but thee. 'That whether in the world at large, Or round her own hearth stone, May she keep faithfully the charge, Which on her rests alone, That in her daily walk she shall D o only as she shown. That if the truly good are great She may be truly good. A CALGARY MIRACLE. The Most Wonderful Case Ever Recorded in the Northwest. Miss Lela Cullen is Reteued Frorri What Her Phataicians and Friends Thought to be Her Deathbed. Winnipeg Tribune. CALGARY, N. W. T., October 20, 1892 — por same time put the residents of this town have been deeply interested in the case of Mita Lela Cullen a young ladya who had so nariy approached the portals of the great unknown, that her friends despaired of her recovery, and who has new frilly, indeed al- most miraculously, regained 'her health and strength. Having read on various occasions in The Tribune the particulars of what ap• pe.areci to be mireculous cares, your oorre- sponde,nt determined to investigate the cise of MSS Cullen, and now sends you the par- ticulars fatly believing that you will be jus- tified in giving them the widest publication. When your correspondent visited the resi- dence of,.Mrs. Cullen, the mother of the yourg lady, he wae ceurteously received, and in reply to his irquiries as to whether she would be willing to give the facts of her daughter's W013derfu1 recovery, for publica- tion for the benefit of other sufferer's, Mr. Cullen rfadily aesented, "My daughter's firet illnees," said Mrs. Cullen, " was in June, 1890, when she was taken with the measlee. At that time the was rieventeen years of age, tail, fine lo Yking, and exceed- ingly healthy, weighing about 140 pounde. All the family took the meaelet, and all got over them without troutde, except Lela. Her case from the first baffle 1 ad the ordinary remedies used for that dissase, and as the measles did not come out, a physician was celled in. He administered remedies, but with no better results, and her case seemed to baffle the physician's skill. Ater a few weeks my daughter began to improve some - 'what but did not regain her former strength, and sir weeks after she was first taken ill, her face, neck and limbs broke out in bianchei. The doctor was again called in, and said it was the .neasles getting out of her system, and that she would aeon be all right again. The doctor' statement was net verifitd, however, for not on'y did my daughter not improve,- but she gradually grew vvoree. Soon after she began to swell, first the feet, then the limbee breast and face became puffed up. Another doctor was called in and he pronouneed her trouble dropay, resulting from the measles. The doctor attended he all veinter, and although be eeenaed to do all in his power for her, the gradually became wetker and weaker. She did not eat, and tonics failed to improve her appetite, and as she gradually grew weaker, she lost her courage, felt that hope of tife was fast slipping away. In the spring, the doctor's medicine having done her no good, was discontinued, and in- stead he gave her preparations of beef, iron and Yr ine, hypophosphitt s, eggs, cream, etc. In fact, stimulants of this kind had tobe constantly forced upon her to keep her alive, and I gave ep all hope of her recovery, and in my misery waited for her death. She was now ao weak that she could not walk across the floor, and in order to rest her we would lift her into a chair, where elle would sit for a short while when we would again place bee in bed. She was slowly but surely dying be- fore our eyes, and nothiog we could do for her wax of avail. She was atilt puffed tip, and nothing the doctors could do would re- duce the swelling. Her limbs ,would ho longer support her, and she could only sit Up a very abaft time each day, In this con- dition she liogered on until August, 1891, some fifte en months after she was firat taken flit and while we were sorrowfully awaiting what efeemed the inevitable end, a ray of hope came. I read in a newspaper of a re- markable cure from the use of Dr. Williams' Pink Pals for Pale People, and while I fear- ed that I had heard of this wonderful med- ioine to late, I hoped almost against hope and sent to the headquarters of the com- pany, at Brockville, Ontario, for a supply. At this time, Lela was not able to be re- moved from bed; her weight was reduced to 90 pounds, and her lips were blue. You will thus see how little hope there appeared for her when she began the use of Dr. Wit- tier -re,' Pink Pills. After she had taken the firstbox, although there was no visible im- provement. she thought they were doing her gocd, and her spirits began to rise. At the end of the second box I could notice the improvement, and Lela was very hopeful, and felt life was returning to her again. After she bad been taking Dr. William's Piek Pills for a month, she was able to get rip, and by Oetober she was so well that she could superintend work about the house. She stilt continued taking the Pills, and rapidly tecovered all her old time health, strength and spirits. I cannot tell you." - continued Mrs. "how deeply grateful 1 ain for the wonderful medicine that saved my daughter's life. You may be sure that both me and mine will always warmly recommend it, as we have every rea- son WHAT A PROmINENT DRUGGIST SAYS. Your correspondent then called upon Mr. J. G. The Erabarg_o on Cattle May be Removed. A special cable despatch from London, England, says : Mr. Gardner, chairman of the Board of Agriculture, has give° a •pledge on behalf of the Imperial Government, that the restric- tion recently imposed on Canadian cattle imported into Great Britain and Ireland will be removed as soon as Canada has proved be- yond a doubt that the Dominion is free from pleurcepneumonia. The High Commissioner has communicat- ed with the Dominion authorities to have the necesiary inspecition made and the proof of the country's immunity from the disease forwarded to London. Meanwhile those intereeted in the Can- adian cattle trade, particularly in Scotland, are keeping 'up the agitition to have the schedule againet Canadian cattle at once re- moved. They maintain that no cases of pleurc-pneumonia were found. to have _exitt• ed in any imported Cariadien cattle. The opponents in England of the Can- adian export trade are not, however, idle. The farming Aube ere now meeting, and are urging the Board of Agriculture to secure the passege of an Act requiriog that all foreign stock be slaughtered at the port of lauding, whether any contagious disease is reporttd to exist in the etuntry from which they are expoited or not. The Scotch Breeders' Association, the Smithfield Club, and other leading ow -lout- ' tural bodies are sharing in this movement. —Of the 12 tramps who were in the cella at Stratford last Friday n'ght, seveu of them next morning refund to make up their beds or to do the few chores demanded of them. Sequel to axi Elopement. London, December 5th. --An elopement in a London suburb on Wednesiay had a most amueing sequel. A young man smartly dressed and a young women closely veiled were hurrying together toward a railroad station. Suddenly a wagon drove up from behind, and three chimney sweeps alighted in front of the couple. They seized the young man. Of e stripped him of his coat and waistcoat, while tbe other poured over his head the contents of a large can contain- ing an oily liquid, while the man who di- rected the operations; threw into his face about a bushel of soot which he took from a bag in the cart. The latter completed the assault by horse -whipping the unhappy youth, and advising latm to rehearse the Tenth commandment without delay. Then, turning to the crowd, trhich had assembled, be gave his name and address, and -informed his hearers that the young men had robbed him of hie wife. Be directed the woman, who had been crying for mercy, to mount the cart, and. she obeyed with alacrity, the party drove off, leaving behind them a how- ling creature of hideous appearance, wbo, catching up his coat and waistcoat from the ground, darted down a ,by street into the first open door, which happened to bq that of a house in which a number of Salvatiiine iota were engaged in devotional exercises The sudden appearanCe at such 111 "14 Have You Received a Card'?
