News Notes.
-At Boston one day last week, David
'Wilbur Wood, of Lubeck, was fined
42,500 and costs for smuggling opium ,
into the United States.
-German emigration statistics for the
ant quarter of 1891 allow that 41,692
Perums immigrated to America in that
enne-the largest number for six years.
-The dwelling of Samuel P. Myers,
a prominent farmer near Myersdale,
P0111111341/11116, was burned Thursday
night of last week, and two children,
aged 9 and 12 years, were roasted alive.
-The recent census of Ireland shows
& population of 4,706,160 males and
2,317,016 females, being a decrease of
468,674 in the total since the last
cers.
-Thue National Press, Dublin, Ireland,
-ecouses Parnell ,of misapplying certain
funds, and announces its intention of re-
itersting the charges in order to compel
lain to take legal proceedings against
the publishers of the paper.
-Chauncey Vibbard, of New York
City,in his day the foremost railroad
mi
an n America, and who is regarded as
the "father of railroads," died Friday,
-5th inst., at Macon, Georgia, in the 80th
year of his age.
• -Thomas Bellhouse, an insurance
-agent, committed suicide at Ritches-
ter Sunday night last week by jumping
into the canal. The last thing he did
before suiciding was to pawn his wife's
Bible and take the proceeds to pay up
an insurance policy.
-Dr. Davis, of Bound Brook, New
Jersey, broke one of his riba, Sunday of
last week, in his efforts to restrain a
-violent fit of sneezing. The shock in-
stantly cured the convulsion, but he
will hardly introduce the method in
treating his patients.
-Last Friday morning 30 prominent
students of Harvard f College, Boston,
'members of the Alpha Delta Phi Club,
whose rooms were raided by the police
lest week and large seizures of liquor
-made, were fined $65 each in the Cam-
bridge Court.
--Reports from the western portion
of Taylor County, West Virginia, state
that the territory for about 100 square
miles was devasted by a cloud -burst
:Saturday afternoon last week. An im-
mense amount of damage resolted. It
is feared there was loss of life. Crops
were swept away, bridge r carried off
and roads made impassable, while a con-
siderable amount of live stock was
drowned.
-The -Indianapolis ' and Louisville
-fast train ran into a tornado near Croth-
eraville, Indiana Thursday night last
week se it crossed the track. The en-
gine and train swayed fearfully, and the
,passengers were panic-stricken. The
engineer‘could not stop until the train
had piereed the cloud. The train was
going near& 50 miles an hour, and its
speed saved in from being wrecked.
-Vienna city was visited by a severe
thunderstorm on Friday last week.
"Thirty-six- buildings were struck by
lightning, two children killed and many
people were badly injured. In the
'Suss Valley a large number of houses
were blown over, nine persons were
, killed and many injured.
-In France the weather, at last ad-
-vices, was cold and wet, and nn avorable
-for the crops. Reports as t4 winter
wheat show no particular improvement;
spring wheat, which even this year will
form less than a third of the crop, is in
fairly good condition. Oats promise a
large crop, partly through a material in-
crease in area at the expense of winter
wheat. Warm, dry weather was much
needed for all cereals.
-Lord Rothschild, speaking at a
Council of the United Synagogue in
London, England, on Tuesday of last
week, said the Jewish community was
on the brink of a precarious and danger-
ous period, owing to the influx of desti-
tute Jews. He did not believe there
would be large arrivals in England un-
less the English Jews adopted a scheme
of relief, which at present seemed un-
likely. All Jewish immigrants who
were able to do so would go elsewhere,
and the poorer had been warned of the
-condition of the labor mrrket in Eng-
land.
-A horrible crime of double murder
-and suicide came to light last week.
-The scene of the tragedy was in one of
the poor quarters of Kentish Town, a
--suburb of London, England. The
neighbors of a family oc upying apart-
ments in a house in that juarter noticed
that none of the family h d been seen for
some time, and on open ng the apart-
ments, the heed of the fa dy, his wife
and child were found dead in the rooms.
It was evident the man had first killed
his wife and child and than killed him-
self by cutting his throat. No cause is
known for the crime.
-Receiver Mix, of the Commerce
Bank, Guthrie, Oregon, which failed
some months ago, has handed in his re-
-port to the court. It shows that the
bank from its inception was run with a
-view to take in all it could in deponta
and then fail. The bank started with-
out s dollar. It opened On the 22nd of
April, 1889. The deposits for the first
three months averaged $19,000 a day.
There is no record that any of the organ-
izers of the institution or anybody else
ever put in a dollar except the deposi-
tors' money. President J. M. Rogedale
credited himself with having deposited
155,000, while another party named
Rogsdale had a credit of $48,000. rhe
'books are in bad condition.
-The collector of customs at Buffalo
recently refused free entry of certain
boiler tubes or pipes which formed part
-of a domeetic boiler that had exploded
in Canada, on the ground that they were
not returned in the condition in which
exported. Assistant, -Secretary Spauld-
ing has overruled the collector and has
'directed the free mdmission of the tubes.
He calls the collector's attention to the
fact that the provisions of the free list
exempting from duty articles of the
growth, product and manufacture of
the United States when returned after
having been exported do not require
that the articles shall be in the same
condition as when exported, but that
they shall not have been advanced in
value or improved in condition by any
process of manufacture or other means.

Overeating and Drinking.
"Nearly everybody eats far more
than is necessary, says a leading phys-
ician. "Among my patients those who
eat the least get over their mully-grubs
the quickest, while those who eat the
heaviest are ill the oftenest. My ex-
perience shows that half the ailments of
life are brought about by overeating or
drinking. I myself take a light break-
fast, perhaps eggs with toast, or fish

was very unexpected. On Wednesday
she went to school as usual, but took

it was found that eh was suffering from
bronchitis and cong4stion of the lungs.

"The Coming School of Medi-

System.
Chicago, an. 1,1888.
- This is to certify that 1 have m e a thorough
investigation of the Histogenetic M die'nes pre-
pared by Dr. J. Eugene Jordan and of his
unique methods of research, and a ), therefore,
competent to form a correct Jud: lent. I pro-
nounce them marvelous products o the highest
skill, showing b.n acquaintance wit the natural
sciences far in advance of any sava t with whose
works the world is acquainted. Th amount of
time and painstaking which the d. -tor has ex-
pended upon the single branch of spectroscopy
is enormous, and his discoveries s rtling. Also
having used these medicines in n y own prac-
tice I can say that their actual sue in miring
disease is as great as is their discov ry. The re-
volution of the medical science of to -day is no
dream -it is at hand.
J. B. S. KING, . D., P. D.
Prof. Chem: and Toxicology, Hahnemann
Medical College of Chicago.
The Histogenetic theory of rea hing disease
is: Rebuilding thediseasrx1 cells a d tissues of
the body, with the same proxima principals
and ferments, organic bodies, and so on, which
are normally prepared in the body the glands.
The medicines are prepared by c critical pro-
cesses, in a perfectly pure condi ion, and are
quite taeteless. Diseases heretofo e considered
incurable are cured by these nediclnen. In
acute diseases such as LaGrippee Pneumonia,
Typhoid, Diphtheria, etc., the patient improves
at once.
