THE HURON EXI3OSITOR.
A Startling ,Contradiction.
/a the Editor ot Ina HURON DEPOSITOR,
DEAR S/R,-There is an old adage that
says "& prophet is not without honor
save in his awn country," and the saying
is generally accepted as containing much
truth. Indeed it is expended into the
, generally aceepted belief that trne merit,
whether it be that of an individual, or
- that of some medicinary preparation is
much more likely to meet with popular
approval at a distance than at home.
Nasal Balm, acknowledged as being the
greatest remedy for cold in the head and
catarrh, ever offered to the people of
.Canade, affords a striking instance of the
fact that !popular opinion, for once, at
ieast, is wrong. From the outset its
popularitY in the home of its manufacture
has been unbounded and constantly
increasing. In neidence of this we offer
testimonials from two Brockville gentle-
men who are known thrmighout the
Dam.ineibrn.
DDbyehire, Esq., Mayor of Brock-
ville, and for the past two years Presi-
dent of the Ontario Creamery Associ-
ation, says :-" Your Nasal Balm is
" truly a wonderful remedy. I may say
that I was afficted with a distressing
case of catarrh, accompanied by a num-
ber of its disegreeable symptoms. I had
tried other remedies, but without avail,
and well nigh despaired of a cure, when I
was induced to give Nasal Balm a trial.
Its effects were wonderful, and the results
arising from its use surprising. Briefly
stated, it stops the droppings into the
throat, sweetens the breath, relieves the
headaches thkt follow catarrh,, and in
fact makes one feel altogether like a
new man. No one who is suffering
from catarrh in- any of its stages should.
lose a moment in giving this remedy a
trial."
James Smart, Eq., Brockville, Shor-
iff of the United Counties of Leeds and
Grenville, Ws :-" It would be impos-
sible to speak too extravagantly of the
. wonderful curative properties of Nasal
Betm. I suffered for upwards of a
month with a severe cold in the head,
which, deapite the use of other reme-
dies, was becoming worse and develop-
ing into catarrh. I procured a bottle of
Nasal Bairn and was relieved from, this
-first application and thoroughly cured
within twenty-four hours. I cheerfully
add my testimony to the value of Nasal
Balm.
These are bat two illustrations out of
the hundreds of testimonials the pro-
prietors of Nasal Balm have had 'from
all parts of the Dominion, but they
ought ta convince the most skeptical.
If your dealer does not keep Nasal Balm
it will be sent on receipt of price -50
cents small size and $1 large size bottle
-by addressing FCrLFORD & Co., Brock-
ville, Ont. 1205-4

-James Walker, One of the oldest,
best known, and most respected of Ham-
ilton's citizens, died on Saturday, 24th
ult. Mr. Walker came to Hamilton in
1833, having started from his home in
Kirkbridge, Yorkshire, in search of in-
telligence of his father, who had perish-
ed the previous year in the wreck of the
ship "Zoe" in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
He began business for Iiimaelf as a soap
and candle maker on King street west,
and in 1815 he prospered so well that he
was able to purchase th property at the
;
corner of Main and Bay streets, where
he built his house and f ctory, and lived
and carried on his busi cos until a efew
months ago. In 1837 e served as an
officer in the volunteers organized to
suppress the Mackenzi rebellion. He
was a member of t e Presbyterian
church, most charitabl in his nature,
active in all good works, and for nearly
fifty years was secre ary-treasurer of

- -Jut fifty years go, on January
19th, 1841, Mr. and Mrs. Homer
Stiles, of Cornwall, were married at the
then small village of Fort Covington,
New York State. No railroad was there
to convey them on the traditional wed-
ding tour, no telegraph' or telephone to
warn friends in distant places that they
might expect company, no need of hacks
to convey the bridal party to the depot,
no electric light system to brighten the
then city or town t be visited; the
tallow candle and the old fire -place be-
ing then the prevailing systems for the
production of light and heat. But they
had wedding! tours in these days, arid
the subjects Of our sketch took theirs by

taking the Overland route to L'Orignal,
thence !taking the Ottawa river ice to

saw the oldistage Coach replaced by the
railway coadi and the old Durham boat
by the modern steamer, in fact they
have seen Ootnwall grow from the con-

Mojnday, 19th ult., Mr. Albin
Sower andi wife, of North Norwich,
County of Qxford, celebrated the six-
tieth •anni ersary of their marriage.
Relatives and, friends of the old couple
to the num er of 50 constituted a sur-
prise party and made an exceedingly in-
teresting gathering. Mr. Stover has at-
tained the age of 87 years, while his
wife is 85, but both have borne their
years remarkably well. An interesting
incident in eennection with the anni-
versary celebration was the baking of a
wedding cake by :Mrs. Stover, which
was as neat as passible a perfect fac-
simile of the cake used at the wedding
sixty yeats ago. The venerable old
couple were Married according to the
custom of idle Society of Friends in the
Quaker church at Norwich. Sixty
years ago Style in that part of the coun-
try was not as high as it is now, and
when youOgl Albin Stover and Anna
Wilson decided to become man and wife
they removed the ordinary farm yard
-box from the wagon, put a clean oho on
instead, ptitit couple nf old-time wagon
chairs in and drove off to the church.
The marriegheeremony was very simple.
Mr. Stover rose in the presence of. a.
number of;witnesses, took the bridle's
hand in his and said: "Annie Wilson,
promisea through divine assistknce. to
be unto y'ciu ta loving and faithful bus

made a similar promise. and they be
came manand wife. No less than fifty
witnesses alined' the marriage certificate
and it is assiegular coincidence that the
number of Witnesses at the sixtieth an-
