The fol- lowing persons had each one dog struck off, the dogs having been destroyed since being assessed, viz: Geo. Kelly, A. Jackson, Gerard King, Dougald Taylor, F. McCracken, and Archibald Patterson. J. Cardiff was entered as tenant of north half of lot 30, concession -5, and Charles Herbert was entered owner of the north east pert of lot 30, *concession 1. As there were no appeals against the assessment of property the .Court adjourned until the 27th of June. The minutes of last council were read and ordivart, council business proceed- ed with, accounts were ordered to be paid as follows: A. McDonald, gravel, $3; T. Pasmore, printing, $6; John Watson, assessor, salary, $88, Michael Dwyre, culvert, $5; Wm. Brown, plank, s1.50 ; Misses Exford, charity', $10; David Errington, removing grevel, $Z; C. J. Moore, plank for culvert, $1.20 ; M. Cunningham, drain aeross road, $250, Wm. Tiernan, work on bridge, $2. The Reeve of Brussels ade dressed, the Colman board in reference to the payment of -railway fare of the Halliday family to the Nerthwest. It was moved by C. A. Howe, seconded by S. Colbeck that H. Mooney be instruct- „edto a.ssist the Reeve of _Brussels in se- curing tickets and that this Council go equal sheres inpayment of railway fare. --Carried. Moved by E. Bosman, sec- onded by IL Mooney that the Reeve be instructed to confer with the Reeve of Grey, in respect to the building of snow fences On the gravel road at lot 30, con- cessions 8 an.d 9. -Carried. Moved by H. Mooney, seconded by C. A. Howe, that S. Colbeck be instructed to let a job of patting in a culvert opposite lot 19, coneeseion 2, also that Mr. Robb 'be allowed 30 cents per rod for digging a ditch along the road side, opposite said lot, the ditch to be 5 feet wide on top and two and one-half feet deep. - Carried. Moved by E. Bosman, second- ed by S. Colbeck that C. A. Howe bee instructed to let a jab of digging a drain` and potting in pipe opposite lot 10, con- cession 8.--Caeried. Moved by C. A. Howe, seconded by S. Colbeck that the Reeve be instructed to examine the road opposite lot 14, concession 6, and report what is necessary to be done. - Carried. Moved by FX Bosnian, second- ed by S. Colbeck that H. Mooney be ine structed toexamine the read at lots 25 and 26, concession 6, and report what is necessary to be done. Carried. Moved by S. Colbeck, seconded by C.A. Quickly snatching the younger chilld, she made a rush for the door. In doing so she upset the keroaene can, the oil igniting and setting fire to her clothes. The other child was burned to death in the house. -A monster procession in honor Mr. Gladstone was held at Swan ea, Wales, on the 4th inst. Mr. Gladst ne, with prominent Liberals of Wales, o cu- piecl a special stand, from which he re- viewed the parade. Mr. Knight, author of "Rock- ed in the Cradle of the Dep" and other popular swigs, is dead at London, Englend. -The Queen, in. commemoration of her Jubilee, will order the relesze of all military prisoners confined for petty offences. -Dr. Mackenzie, the English surgeon who exemined the throat of Crown Prince Frederick William :of Germany, reparts that the trouble is not cancer, but a non-malignant growth whieh may, with careful and gradual treatment, be cured. -A landslide has occurred on Spitzen Mountain, Switzerland, which killed I and wounded a number of persons, be- sides destroying much property. -A strange disease, communicated by contact, has caused agreat deal of havoc among horses in Dewitt Couuty, Illinois. It is believed to. have been coraraunicated from imported French stallions, and is said to be common in France. It was first noticed in Dewitt County in 1885. thousand cases of flannels ag- gregating the sum of nearly $1,000,009 were sold in a New York auction house on Friday, June 3rd. The sales were made to represeetatives of dry goods houses throughout the country. -The Queen's route from Bucking- ham Palace to Westminster Abbey on June 21 has been revised and extended. Americans are credited with being the highest bidders and forcing prices up. -Nubar Pasha., who will represent the Khedive at the Jubilee ceremony in London, will take a present to the Queen from the Khedive consisting of a priceless necklace of Egyptian antique gems. -The loss of the steamer Sir John Lawreece off the Calcutta coast in the recent cyclone is confirmed, and her 750 passengers, mostly native ladies going to the Juggernaut festival, are . probably all lost. -During a. circus performance at Nesehen. a Russian town, on Sunday evening, the 5th inst, a storm blew off a portion of the roof, causing the pen- dant lamps to pour blazing petroleum on the heads of the spectators. A panic re- sulted and three hundred persons were injured. -The evictions at Bodyke, Ireland, have been began again. The sheriff was protected while doing his work by a force of 600 palicemen dud troops. At one house, in which the inmates were barricaded, the officers made a hole through the wan with timber and then removed the furniture.
