Trunks and'Tables.
1.
When in the'lEttehen of some immacu-
late housekeeper I see -the ittatiless pine
table, I am impressed with its eleatdi-
ness, but I do riot necessarily call to
mind the great amount of care wad
strength that has been put forth to pies-
tect it from aetedless blemishes, or to
remm'e those ineVitable traces of house -
'work which the Most careful foresia it
cannot prevent. t liut when, after the
departure of one Oridget, I descend into
lower regions to look after the " wreelcs
of time" which : her reign may ha.ye
spared, and to prepare for the ineoming
of another Bridget; when I then see the
pine table far front spotless, but remind-
ing me rather of1Jacoo's cattle, .' ring.
streaked and spotted," and grimy with
carelesswashina, J feel as I lay my oan
hands to the tasclelof removing pot -black
and grease, by aal of soad and sand and
brush, or even knife, there's too muele
of scru Wine goesato a kitchen table.
Then I cal to mind the thousands at
kitehene in whieh this scrubbing is going
on daily, and I feel a strong desire to
lighten in some 'Way this laarden-over-
tasked housekeefiers. Therefore the other
day, when I stood in the kitchen of e
.i
of New York State's tidy housewives, -I
exelaimed with jay, " Eureka ! I ha re
found it, and ?apt proclaim it to t le
world, and oae and all the women will
cry out, • Why dad we never think ({if
that bef re ?'" i
l3efor me stood an ordinary kitehea
table, lit on whichthe housewife placed
her pots and kettles and greasy pans
without awe punctaone of eoneerences far
a wet clath safficel to remove all- stains,
because ev ell the table was covered with
zinc.
"1 have used it five years, and it is
as good as new, aed saves rne such a
world of labor. Such was the testa
mony of the mistress, and I believed
her, , ,
The zinc was jut the length of the
table, but the sides were turned over
and nailed fast bathe under side of the
table. ,
,
It occurs to rag that those who, far
any reason, cannot cover the whale ta
with zinc might have two or three ain
boards, zine -covered, to stand on t
table, on which to place pots and pats
in the exigencies af cooking.
I have a 'large Saratoga trunk filn:
which I could find rib place in the kit-
chen, and even there it was a nuisance
as it took up the apace where my table
ought to be. After same thought I de-
termined to convert it into a table. 1I
therefore had a earpeater procure talo
boards as longl s- the trunk is wide
One edge of these re hollowed out to fit
across the top of t e trunk from front to
back. Upon the o hee edge -which was
left straight -he riled boards, and lo !
I had a table whiel co -aid be placed an
the trunk when needed, and removed if
I wished to open the trunk. This tabl6,
covered with zinc, is water -tight, and
although not particularly ornamental, is
very practical. - 1
A smaller trunk,, with a similar table
top, is deaped with blue cambric, cover
edwith . muslin„ and becomes a shrine
for nice dresses, and a dressing -table as
well. A still smaller trunefitted up
with cushion and fade -ace. makes a re-
pository for sewingland at the same time
is a comfortable otteman.
Trunks are not in themselvea ornan
mental, and although convenient ard
usually banished to garret or stare-rooM4
Whereas, dressed as above described,
they become peetty articles of furniture
while remaining serviceable for storing
purposes, and are in DO wise interfered
with for traveling, as their covering is
easily realoved, beiag made fast to the
table -top..

In sprinkling the clothes, a small whisk-.

than your hand; and remember to roll
the garments with the hems inside, as,
that being the thickest part, it retains
the water longest, and keeps the rest of
the garment wet. In summer it is not
a good plan to dampen down clothes over
night, as they are apt to sour. If- you
use hat water for sprinkling, the clothes
will be day enough in an hour or two to

Shirts, as every one knows, are the
hardest articles to ken well ; so perhaps
it will be beat to give a few simple direc-
tions in regard to ironing them. Begin
at the binding of the 'neck, and next fold
the shirt through the' middle of the back,
and iron on both sides of the fold. Then
iron the sleeves and t front part of the

Catarrh -as New Tre tment.
Perhaps the most e4raordinar3 suceese th t
has been achieved in modern inedi ine has bee
attained by the Dixon Treatment for Oafurrlj.
Out of 2,000 patients treated durin'mj the past si
months, fully ninety percent, hmwi been cure
of this stubborn malady. This is one the les
startling when it is remembered th t no flee p r
cent, of patients presenting the elves to the
regular practitioner are benefitt d, while the
patent medicines and other adtertised cures
never record a cure at all. Starting evith the
claire now generally believed by the meet scien-
tific men that the disease is due to the presence
of living parasites in the tissue, Mr. Dixon
once adapted his cure to their ex ormihation
ehia aetaomplished, he elainis the C truth is pra
tically cured, and the permanency s unquestio
td, as cures effected by him four -stare ago or ,
cure e still. No one else has ever attempted te
cure Catarrh in this manner, and n other treat
mei,' has ever cured . Catarrh. Ti e application)
of the remedy Is simple, and can be done at
home, and the present season of t e year is thi
most favorable for a speedy and pe manent cure,
the majority of cases being cured it one treat-

Of failing health, whether in the form of
Night Sweats and Nervousness, or in a
sense of General Weariness and Loss of
Appetite, should suggest the use of Ayer's
Sarsaparilla. This' preparation is most
effective for givina tone and strength
j
to the eefeebled s'stem, promoting the
iigestion And assini lation of food, restor-
Mg the nervous farces to their normal
- condition, . and for purifying, enriching,
and vitalizing the blood.
Health.
Failing
_Ten years ago ma health began to fail.
I was troubled with a distressing Cough,
Night Sweats, Wel kness, and 'Nervous-
ness. - I tried various remedies prescribed
by different physic ans, but became so
weak that I could not go up steirs with-
out stopping to rest My friends recom-
mended me to try Ayer's Sarsaparilla,
which I did, and I a a now tie healthy and
strong_as ever, -3 es. E. L. Williams,
Alexandria, Minna:
I have used _Ayer s Sarsaparilla, in my
family, for Scrofula, and know, if it is
taken faithfully, that it will thoroughly
eradicate this terrible disease. I have also
prescribed it as a tonic, as well as en alter-
ative, and must nay *et I honestly believe
it to be the best Wood medicine ever
compounded. -W. la. Fowler, D. D. S.,

It would. be impoeeible for Me to de-
scribe what I suffered from Indigestion
and Headache up t . the time I began
taking Ayer's Sareaperilla. I a -as under
the care of various physicians and tried
a great many kinds of medicines, but
never obtained more than temporary re.
lief. After taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla for
a short time, my headache disappeared,
and my stomach perfermed its chutes more
perfectly. To -day ily health. is com-
pletely restored. -Mriry Harley, Spring-
field, Mass. . .
I have been greatly benefited by the
prompt use of Ayer's .Sarsaparilla. It
tones -and invigorates' the system, regulates
the action of the digestive and assimilative
-organs'and vitalize , the blood. It is,
without doubt, the most reliable blood
purifier yet. discover eh -II. D. Johnson,
