pett, once a Rugby bey and later a
graduate of Oxford, was famous in his

he could then make a record, thorigh 35
years old. Heavy bets were made that
he could not walk a mile, ride a mile,
and run a mile in 17 rniunte$. He went
into traiuing and at once !went lame,

-The other afternoon a plainly dress-
ed woman, about 26 year of age, with
a pleasing faee, hazel eyes, beautiful

Hotel, Braatford. To get sympathy she in-
vented a moat plausible yarn, and getting

The entire story was undoubtedly a pure
fabrication and made for senile ulterior
purpoee, not revealed. Mr. Davis says
he will " fire " the next, women thet
goes to him with 'a symsiethy invoking
