The. Wheelbarrow Craze.
John Cochrane, of Dundee, ene of the
now numerous wheehbarrownien on -the
road, arrived in Laugh°1m on Saturday
night oa his return journey to Dundee.
He left Langhohn on the 17th, reached
London OM the 27th, and started on the
return jettarney en the 2Sth of January.
His experieuces have been anything but
agreeable. Several nights he slept out,
not heeing the wherewith to pay for a
• night' s •
lodeineeCrossing Shap Fell, the
snow lay very deep, and he fell through
a drift into a stream, the barrow falling
t on toped him, and but for the provid ant-
ial appearance of a shepherd he would
have perished. Near Stockport his
' barrow broke down, and he had to carry
I it a distance of four miles before he got
it repaired,. Ou one ocaasion he was so
hard pushed for food, as to be compelled
to eat raw turnips growing in the fields
on his road. Deeptte his mishaps, Coch-
rane seems t3 he made of tough materials,
as he left Kendal on Friday at 12 a. m.
and eentiutted on through Penrith, Car-
lisle, and Longtown, without sleep,
arriving in Langhialtu on Saturday at
6e30•p. un, thus walking a distance of
70 miles in :nit hours. On his arrival
here he halted in th n Manket Place, and
fared - very well at the hands of the
people on the street, receiving several
shillings. Ile staid over Sunday and
left at 9 a. in. on Monday morning, still
further enriched, intending to reach
Selkirk that day, ami arrive in Dundee
OR Saturday night, hie time being up OR
Sunday. He has received no ill-treat-
ment mi the way, but has not been able
to send any money te his wife and
family, although h understands some of
his friends hae eolleeted a, small amount
for him in Dundee. He seemed touched
by the kindness he received here, and
was loud in his praises of the liberality
of the people, saying that he had bee -
better treated hero than in any other
place either going or returning. —Lang -

—One day a couple of weeks ago Mr.
Wm. Purdy, of Kiueardine, met with a
frightful accident under peculiar circum-
stances. Standing . on a chair and
searching on a shelt for some article, he
managed to overbalance a heavy and
sharp chisel, the butt end of which, in
falling from the shelf, struck him on the
chin, the chisel thea careered, the sharp
edge penetrating his right leg j nst above
the knee cap. Fears are entertained
that the leg may have to be amputated.

Catarrh—a New Treatment.
Perhaps the most extraordinary succest that
has been achieved in modern medicine ha been
attained by the Dixon Treatment for Catarrh.
Out of 2,000 patients treated during the past six
months, fully ninety per cent, have been ;cured -
of this stubborn malady. This is none l the less
startling when it is remembered that no fiVe per
cent. of patients presenting themselves to the
regular practitioner are benefitted, I while the
patent medicines and other advertised • cures
never record,a cure at all. Starting with the
claim now generally believed by the most scien-
tific men that the disease is due to the presence
of Hying parasites in the tissue, Mr. Dixon at
pnce adapted his cure to their extermination—
