Mrs. Gladstone.
It has been the happy -fortune of great
British politicians to have wives who
aided them in bearing the cares of of-
fice, and naade their private existence
blessed. Not more to Pitt was the ac-
complished companion of his labors, or
to Fox the lovely being who exercised
pell uPon him to the hist, than is
ker s
the wife of the great Minister to his
honored and glorious age. Mrs. Glad..
one j no longer a rare visitor to the
flouse of Commons. She is ktall, dis-
tinguished looking woman, following
-her husband "in the silenced gray of
years" but at his side always either in
literal trath or in the closest sympathy.
ffer face is strong, keen and refined. A
forehead high rather than broad ; full,
bright eyes, rich with feeling, a, long;
straight nose, high at its joint with the
forehe,a,d, a sympathetic mouth, a clear,
sonorous voice, a simple, stately ma -se-
men gracious and, womanly, a style of
dress suited to her age and station -
such are her exterior characteristics.
Who does nat rejoice that she has lived
eo behold the laurels on her husband's
head, and that he has her to walk with
him to the not distant end. It was my
privilege to express to her the admir-
ation with which in our country his ef-
forts for the betterment of men and
government are observed, and her res-
ponse showed that she, as well as he,
finds in this vaster sympathy a deep
nappiness.-Xargaret F. Sullivan- to
New York Sun.
That Dog.
A very indignant ream marched up to
a neighbor's house and exclaimed, "Here
Tom, you. rascal, here's your dog. I'll
trouble you to give me back the five
shillings 1 gave you for it." "What's
the matter with the dog ?" said Tom,
calm and unruffled. "You warranted
him to hunt rabbits, didn't you!" "And
don't he ?" No ; he isn't worth any-
thing at it," replied the visitor. "Have
you tried the dog ?" "Certainly I have,
and its a downright swindle." "How
were the rabbits cooked ?" "Cooked ;"'
e yes, Were they boiled ?" " Of
course not." " Did you roast them?"
"Why you old idiot, they were alive -
wild, rabbits." "That explains it," said
Tom. " I thought there was something
wrong. You cook the rabbits, and give
the dog half a, chance, and then you'll
see how hell hunt for them." The vic-
tim threw the dog into a corner and
rushed away.
Illustrating a Lesson.
Rev. S. L. B. Chase, pastor in Rock-
land, Maine, essayed to -treat the Sun-
day School to a. blackboard exposition of
the lessons _ So for se starter, and. in the
way of graphically' illuminating his re-
niarkshe took .a bit of chalk and slow -
y and somewhat painfully sketched. on
he blackboard a representation of two
uman hearts joined together. "Now,
then,' he said, turning to the school,
"who will tett me what I have drawn ?"
'1 know," -called a very little boy on
the front seat. " Well," the pastor
kindly said, " what is it ?" And the
very little boy on the front seat shrieked
out: ."-A, termarter."
Holloway's Ointment and Pills.
These remedies are unequalled throughout the
world for bad legs, wounds, foul sores, bad
breasts, arid ulcers. Used according- to direc-
tion given with them there* is no wound, bad
.leg, alcerous sore, however obstinate or long
standing, butewin yield to their healing -and cura-
tive properties. Many poor sufferers who have
been: patients in the large hospitals under the
care of eminent surgeons, and have derived little
or no benefit from their treatment, have been
-thoroughly cured by Hollowayrs'Ointinent and
Pills. For glandular swellings, tumors, piles,
and diseases of the skin there is nothing that can
be used with so much benefit.- in fact, in the
worst forms of disease, dependent upon the con-
dition of . the blood, these medicines. used con-
jointly, are irresistible.964.52w.
-The striking mania reached _a color-

-
congregation it was decided to continue
the salary at two dollars, and let hies

-I compare the troubles which we
have to uudergo in the conrse of the
year to a great_ bundle of fagots far too
large for us to lift. But God does not

mercifully unties the bundle, and gives
us first one stick, which we are to carry

Catarrh -a New Treatment.
Perhaps the most extraordinary success that
has been achieved in modern medicine has been
attained by the Dixon Treatment for Catarrh.
Out of 2,000 patients' treated during the past six
months, fully ninetyper cent, have been cured
of this stubborn malady. This is none the less
startling when it is remembered that no five per
cent. of patients presenting themselves to the
regular practitioner are benefitted, while the
patent medicines and other advertised cures
never record a cure at all. Starting with the
claim now generally believed by the most scien-
tific men that the disease is due to the presence
of living parasites in the tissue, Mr. Dixon at
once adapted his cure to their exterminatione--
ehis accomplished, he claims the Catarrh is prac-
tically cured, and the permanency is unquestion-
-td, as cures effected by him four years ago are
cures still. No one else has ever attempted to
cure Catarrh in this manner, and no other treat
ment has ever cured Catarrh. The application
of the remedy is simple, and can be done at
home, and the present season of the year is the
most favorable for a speedy and permanent cure,
the majority of easesbeingcured at one treat-
ment. - Sufferers shohld correspond with Messrs.
A. H. DIXON & SON, 305 King Street, West,
