Viroinan Could Make,a• Fool
"Of ail the fools in the world," said
an elderly passenger on a Michigan Cent-
ral train, 'I think Senator Jones takes
the blue ribbon. The idea of a -man of
ha age making such a dunce of himself
over a woman. The woman never lived
that could bit me so hard as that. Ther
caretthrow dust in my eye's. I am toO
- old a bird to be caught with feminine
chair -
These self-congratulatory -remark
were uttered at 11 a. m. At noon •
woman once pretty, and still passabl
witb the aid of a skillfully -applied coajt
of rouge, came aboard- at a way statics
and oceupied the seat next to the elde
lean. At 12:30 she struggled vainl
witla the window -blind, and at 12:31 he
eteighber we to her rescue. At 124
they were seated side by side. At 1:3
he took her out to dinner. At 2:30 he
head rested upon his shoulder, and hi
right arid lineeral along the seat -hack
with a spasmocaie tendency to droop. A,
3 sharp the train shipped five minutes
change engines, and a telegraph messen-
ger came into the car. At 2:5 the w
rnan WM wringing her hands in despat ,
and her companion was reading the tel -
gram which she had placed in his hands,
an& trying to comfort her in her grief at
-this sudden intelligence of the death f
tier mother in Boston, and equally sn
den call upon her to return immediately.
At 3:15 the elderly passenger was stand-
ing with his open -pocketbook in hand,
counting out $40 in crisp bills, and plac-
ing thera in the hands of his fellow -
traveller. At 3:20 the unhappy woman
had controlled her grief, and stayed the
flood of tears. At 3:30 she alighted from
the traimafter an affectionate and thank-
ful parting with her benefactor, promis-
fug to write him from Boston, Whither
--- she was to fly by4- the next train for the
East. At 3:31 she entered a ear which
was waiting near the p '
laaform and
which was occupied by a moustached map
with a high hat,a Ioud scarf and a wick-
ed eye. At 3:32 the train started on its
way, and a roguish, laughing. face look-
ed out of the car window, and waved an
arch and gay good -by to the elderly pas-
senger. At 3:33 something seemed to
come over the old man. He flew into a
fit of rage, showed his teeth, looked at
his pocketbook, shook his head, clench-
ed his fists and muttered :

How She Crushed Him.
The New . York correspondent of the
Minneapolis Tribune tells the following
story:
No fun was in the repulse by a belle at
theOrthapedic balI,this week,of a young,
man who there renewed a slight acquaint-
ance with her. This was a charity affair,
and it had a distinguishing charaateris-
tia Hitherto on occasions of philan-
thropy the lines between the self -con-
stituted aristocrats and other respectable
fears had been relaxed for the sake of
the cause, and the proudest Astor matron
or maid condescended to mingle with
ordinary mortals. But at this time it
had been ordered that tne nicest circum-
spection be used to make an exclusive
.assemblage, and each purchaser of a
ticket had been critically considered by
&committee of -society dames. Some-
how or other, however' a retail trades-
man got in. He lookedall right in his
faultless evening dress, his character was
above reproach, and he was a figure of
grace -as he leaned one elbow dawdlingly
on a flower stand, while he politely said
"Good. evening !" to the daughter -ad a
fast family. She identified him with an
inward spasm of horror, for she had
bought shoes of him many a time and
oft; but outwardly she was calm and,
very cool, while he lost a little of his self-
possession as he fumbled with a dancing
card and pencil.
"Ah said the girl, with the slightest
possible elevation of her eyebrows and a
steady gaze of mild impudence into his
flushing face, "have you brought your
bill to me here ? That really seems rather
urgent, but if you need the money I will
have- papa pay you."
The profit of that ball went to the
Orthopedic hospital ,whm•e children with
deformed feet are treated.

Catarrh -a New Treatment.
Perhaps the most extraordinary success that
has been achieved in modern medicine has been
attained by the Dixon Treatment for Catarrh.
Out of 2,000 -patients treated during the past six
months, fully ninety per cent, have been cured
of this stubborn malady. This is none the less
startling when it is remembered that no five per
cent. of patients presenting themselves to the
regular practitioner are benefitted, while the
patent medicines and other advertised cures
never record a cure at all. Starting with the
claim now generally believed by the most scien-
tific men that the disease is due to the presence
of living parasites in the tissue, Mr. Dixon at
once adapted his cure to their exterminatien-
ehis accomplished, he claims the Catarrh is prac-
tically cured, and the permanency is unquestion-
td, as cures effected by him four years ago are
cures still. No one else has ever attempte&te
cure Catarrh in this manner, and no other treat.
ment has ever cured Catarrh. The application
of the remedy is simple, and can be done at
home, and the present season of the year is the
niost favorable for a speedy and permanent cure,
the majority of cases being cured at one treat-
ment. Sufferers should correspond with Messrs.
A. H. DIXON & SON, 306 King Street, West,
Toronto, Canada, and enclose stamp for their
treatise on Catarrh. -Montreal Star, November
