We had been speaking of the lack of

and others four, and neither being cor-

me the following question :
"How is it that the fore -knees of a
horse bend forward jest as ours do,
while his hind knees bend backward,
just aa ours do not ?"
I surmised from an odd. gleam of my
friend's eye, that his question was in
some sort crooked; but as I could not
think precisely how it ought to be
amended? and as I had not thought of
the sabject before, I answered. simply
that I did not know.
"Let us go ont there," said he, "and
look at Dobbin." So we went out.
"In the first place," remarked the
professor, "we will examine his hind

he picked up Dobbin's foot, very =Loh
